Multiculturalism will be the death of us all

Cultures are not equal. Some cultures have no business exisitng. They need to be exterminated. NO, not the people, or their reciepes, or even their quaint costumes. But many cultures are not worth the effort of recognition let alone preserved.

The recent trend of moral and cultural equivalency will be the destruction of liberty. Once you start altering your actions, words, beliefs, inoder to accomodate the beliefs of another culture you have begun to surrender your freedom. This is NOT to say that you should go out of your way to insult others. Only to say that if you can't be true to what you believe, what can you be true to? You have entered into the realm of self-denial at this point.

The preservation of society depends on incorporating the best and discarding the rest. If you are unable, or unwilling, to discard the rest then you are inviting the worst into your society. At some point you are going to have to stand up and say "No."

Or maybe you can't.

And people within the same society having different religions and customs?

I call for Jiiiiiiihad!

Here's the bottom line.

Multiculturalism can only exist under a Tito or a Stalin.

Under a Kerry or a Hillary, it'll be the death of a nation.

Case in point, Jacques Chirac and the next to fall...Tony Blair

You've missed the point. Your own example shows that the Chinese and Indians have assimilated and have become Canadians. They have bought into the dream of paying taxes, enduring endless health inspections and dealing with drunk Blue Jays fans, who are notoriously poor tippers.

Hey, if we're drunk Blue Jays fans it probably means that we were ripped off by the high beer prices at the Skydome. That poor tipping is a result of having no money left.

But they haven't assimilated, although they may have become Canadians. They still have their own cultures and values and churches or what have you.

We must have different definitions of multiculturalism.

How are you defining it?

Besides, the fool doesn't have a clue as to what a culture is. Quaint little resteraunts where he can go and pretend he's oh so sensitive. Eat with chop sticks maybe. He sees the veneer and ignores the structure.

Oh so sensitive? I'm not sure what you've been taught but typically we just eat food up here.

You have just scored major points with me for that quote.

Bonus points for the rack.

There's a serious point in this. I wish Ollie and DC would be honest about it.

You mean get into a serious, mature debate with Ishmael? In which all viewpoints are respected and that isn't immediately soured by Ishmael calling people names?

Yeah, that must have just slipped my mind.

You're right. There is a certain minimal amount of assimilation that people have to accept when living in America or other western liberal democracy. If you're not able to abide the behaviors others choose to perform with the freedoms afforded us here, then you ought to suffer the legal consequences. This is a far cry from obliterating cultures.

Other than that, though, railing against multiculturalism is xenophobia dressed up in its Sunday best.

Por ejemplo.

When the first wave of Cubans first arrived in Miami I was astounded by the culture. Having been primarily exposed to the Mexican culture I thought I was seeing something quite unique. The family bought a house and everyone went to work. Soon enough the house was paid off, and then they bought another house for the oldest son. And the whole family worked to pay that off. My thought was, "How marvelous to see a family work together to achive goals."

I was envious of such a culture. But I had forgotten the lessons of the Patrone system. The family sticks together no matter what. And soon enough the Cubans had elected a Cuban mayor who had appointed a family member as the financial officer of the city and soon after that the city was bankrupt. You see, it didn't matter whether tio Ernesto was a mouth breathing idiot, he was family. The European monarchy model imported on a local scale.

And that is the underlying cultural aspects that have to be considered, not the food, or the clothes, or the quaint accent.

And, really, that's what happens anyway. It's not like we have honor killings up here that are met with cries of "cultural relativism!" by our left wing mush-heads.

The problem is that multiculturalism takes an agnostic view on any view a particular culture takes. I agree that keeping an open mind about things is generally the right approach, but one has to recognize that the purpose of keeping an open mind is so that it will eventually close on something, hopefully superior in nature.

Yes. Because lord knows there would never be a case of patronage in, say, middle America.

LMAO!

So the cubans practice nepotism and Bush practices cronyism.

The end result is exactly the same.
