Much Ado About Nothing

Doing good always threatens someone's power-base. Maybe I told you about how the spouse abuse/homeless grant parasites in this county went after a nice lady who created a trailer park for homeless men (a niche the gals don't serve at all). The government came after the woman with hammer and tongs though she was licensed and in compliance with all laws and ordinances.

The government argued that free lodging was hotel/motel provision and in violation of land use rules. She said, OK, I'LL EVICT THE GUYS AND CLOSE. She did. And within a month the government was at her home pleading with her to re-open and end the awful time the sheriff was having finding shelter for the homeless men. But, uh, no money. The gals were pissed, of course.

You are a needed commodity. There are people like your wife who give to everyone without judgment and without concern about the well going dry because that's impossible.

But people like you that give to just that one person who truly deserves it make the givers feel special. You picked them and they pick nobody necessarily, but it's a good deal. You may have a more limited well so to speak, but it's a damned good well and it's reserved for one person.

Every Kirk needs a Spock, man. Givers can die early if someone isn't watching their back and pulling their ass out of the fire. Which would be a waste of an awesome person.

...said the 27-year old about her online sexual content relationship with a 14-year old kid.

Jeez, get a fuckin' life, like you never, ever, did anything bad in your lifetime.

I adore Kurosawa.

Isn't that a Japanese motor-bike?

Has anyone here, anyone, ever seen a production of Hamlet or King Lear that wasn't cut? They go on forever if they are not trimmed back a bit - and Hamlet in particular is better for it.

ah, but when you point at something, eyes tend to look to where you're pointing, and not at the pointee. misdirection is its only tool.

And if a lot of people pointed to an outhouse, all the toilet paper would be used up.

I can sit still and be quiet for a long time. I'm okay with it.

Usually if they start slashing, I miss some of my favorite parts.

I fail to see how toilet paper usage is related to indication at distance.

If Ulaven were here, I'd ask him to explain this to me.

yup

it always surprises me when people complain about how long the LOTR films or the Harry Potters are - i become so engaged with them, time isn't an issue.

it can be frustrating, unless you're open to the prospect and are prepared to suspend annoyance for its duration. i know it's no shakespeare, but what's been done to under the dome for tv is unforgiveable. the book was ok, not bad if not one of my favourites of his, but the tv thing? barely scratched the surface. dis. a. pointing.

I think it truly is special when you assay the situation, recognize the need, and do it without reporters and a mob in attendance. And the beneficiary gets 100% of the goodies.

When I donated to the United Way our administrator got all the glory and thanks, and the employees who gave money got shit...not even a thanks. I, of course, always kept her from getting the 100% award. And she sent people to talk to me tho she never came herself, she knew I liked it too much. No legs, no donation.

Must be a guy thingy.

Yeah, I'm afraid when poop, body parts or sexual proclivities come up, I'm usually going to wander off.

I miss a lot of male nuance in the process, but I miss a lot of poop, body parts and sexual proclivities, so it works out.

Yeah, LOTR was visually beautifully respectful of the scenery but completely disrespectful to the story. I think Tolkein would have slapped him twice and then walked off in a dignified manner.

There were so many little bits of pieces of Harry Potter that were missing from the movies, but it was a respectful translation that stuck to the important bits.

Never mind if we never found out that Ron was a prefect. Although I probably could have had eight more hours per book and been a little happier with it.

A lot of Shakespeare is gutted in performance and all of the natural pacing and breathing of the piece is done away with as unnecessary and that's a huge mistake. It is all necessary.

Toilet paper can be interesting. Our governors daughter wrote in her memoirs how Prince Achilles Murat, nephew of Bonaparte, served his female guests linen toilet paper with the Bonaparte monogram. But the toilet, a crude privy behind the house, didn't impress her.

all of this, though especially this ^

Yup. I appreciate the person who doesn't need a herald to do a good thing.

I was taught that "No good deed goes unpunished" and I don't really expect good to come back to me, but I'm usually intensely grateful when it does.

the good done by the quiet man/woman is just as good and frequently more vitally important as that done with fanfare, but costs the taxpayer a whole lot less

That's my model. Just look at traffic. Usually everybody just goes the right speed, gives way even if they don't have to, follows the laws, follows the lights.

Every now and then there's a completely selfish asshole, but in general they're the exception.

Jeez, get a fuckin' life, like you never, ever, did anything bad in your lifetime.

I've done a bunch of "bad" in my "lifetime"...

...but I've yet, as an adult, committed the heinous crime of messing around sexually - in any way - with a minor.

Are you simply implying that you don't see messing around sexually - in any way - with a minor that big of deal...

...or that, as an adult, you've messed around sexually with a minor, too?
