Can anyone comment on Mtv's pre-election coverage during 1996 or 2000? Are they fair and objective, or did you sense a liberal bias?

You're kidding, right? "Sense" a liberal slant?

I think it was admittedly liberal, but they've never professed to be objective.

I don't watch MTV ... too old I guess. But I need a second opinion on this.

MTV must be staunchly pro-Republican and anti-liberal since the parent company is Viacom who also owns CBS. Laurel and I don't care what Rush says. We know that no liberal bias exists in the media. In fact, a subtle whisper of conservative bias filters in from the evil rich corporate offices.

Rock the Vote!
Bush is pretty fly for a white boy.
Saxophones are for sissies
Rappers be down for Bush

Be sure to catch George Bush unplugged at 7 eastern

MTV should stick to music...i think the last music actually played on there was a Motley Crue video in 1988

Mtv hasn't done anything good since they cancelled Beavis and Butthead. Bastards. Well, okay Daria's pretty good and Celebrity Deathmatch has it's moments, but still..... bastards. :p

And, yeah, I do think they've been atleast a bit bias in the past. Not only with their pre-election coverage, but with a lot of things.

they are playing on the misconception that children and young adults are more liberal than they really are

MTV

I remember the first time they covered an election... it was the first time a lot of my friends knew who was running. After the election some even knew who was president.

So, this thread is basically to tell Laurel she's wrong?

I think both of you are confusing the 'politics' of consumerism with politics as usual.

Now, that's scary.

MTV Rock the Vote?

:p

You guys are so funny!

As with everything else, their coverage probably oozed hip sanctimony, provided loser stars with badly needed brownie point exposure, bored the hard core viewers, and filled subtle gaps in their scintillating schedule. If only I could remember what kind of underwear W uses! I'm sure that would help....

And who can really remember the coverage of MTV from 1996 to 2000?"

I can.
Or at least the 'major' events.

Okay lets answer this....

:p

Music Videos?
They have those?

I don't know.. I've watched MTV for awhile now and I haven't seen any of those.
They're just commercials anyway.

But there was no arm twisting by the parent company Viacom to project Dole or Bush in a more positive light than Clinton or Gore? Bob Peale seemed to believe there was a liberal agenda, but like I said I didn't watch it. I know they passed on having an inaugural ball for Bush when they had one for Clinton in 1992 and 1996 but that could have been due to a lack of funds.

Anybody who goes to MTV for their political news and views deserve everthing they get and get the Govt they derserve.

You might as well go to the cartoon channel for your financial advice and news.

There's nothing 'liberal' about their political stance and there's nothing 'conservative' about their political stance.

They'll say whatever they can to get people to watch.
Do you ever see political correctness? Feminism? This is also the station that makes money off of the portrayal of black men as nothing but gangstas who kill police officers, sell drugs and tries to get it with 'whores'. Who made Eminim (who sings about killing and raping his mother and is a homophobe) a millionaire.

I hear you are good many ways

:p

They had a party...

I don't recall the source, but I believe they broadcast victory parties in 92 and 96. After this fall's election someone asked why they didn't have one this year. Their answer was : "Because Bush isn't a Democrat."

Let me see if I can dig anything up on the web about it.

Don't be so ridiculous, Siren. It's as serious as WWF's vote push........LOL
