Hey all. My brother put a new version of word on my machine and a new hard drive in. Now when I try to spell check it says it cannot find my custom dictionary.

Anyone have any idea wehre that file is stored and wehre I should move it to so I can cpell check my storries?

Any help is much appreciated

did you go into tools? or the help section? other than that I'm useless and clueless:rolleyes:

Was the new 'Word' installed on the new drive? If so you're dictionary may be on your old drive.

Maybe your old 'Word' is on the old drive too?!

Bring up word, put in gibberish, ddd, rrr, yada yada, click abc-check box, select options at bottom of that box, select custom dictionaries in middle of that box, this is where you adjust that, modify, remove, whatever. If you had a custom setup on your old word to check words like cunt and fuckmerunnin and stuff you will need to import it. If your brother left your old drive in you can import it from there. Or plug the puppy in as a second drive and import. Or simply click modify and start teaching it. You will want custom and put some words in there that you use a lot. See ya

In MS Word 97, the file is named "CUStOM.DIC" and there can be more than one enabled.

If you do a "find files and folders" search of your system, you should be able to find all of the custom dictionaries from all past versions of Word if they still exist.

Onece you've found them, you can go to Tools/Options(Spelling and Grammar Tab) and use the Dictionaries button to install/add whatever dictionaries you need.
