Does anyone out there know anything about motorcycles? Preferably someone with knowledge of Harleys or Indian Motorcycles or something. If you know anything about Sturgis, that'd be helpful too.

I'm wondering what would be considered a "sweet ride". I can describe a motorcycle from a novice point of view, but I'm looking for someone with a little more knowledge and experience than I have.

Anyone?

Don't buy aHarley. Get a Japanese four stroke for reliability or a two stroke for heartattacks.

Nah, not going.

Just writing a piece featuring a motorcycle rider. Want to make it sound authentic.

From what I understand American motorcycles are supposed to be a bitch to maintain/fix. But that being said they have a certain iconography with them. Japenese bikes on the other hand are much easier to maintain/fix, but you see them everywhere. That being said go with what appeals to you just try to keep in mind that some are harder/more expensive to fix then others.

I always enjoy reading Lost Cause and the Heretic talking about motorcycles. They're more morning posters, though.

Thanks Lost&Found, but I'm not looking to buy one, just write about one.

There's a freaking huge gathering of Harley Davidson riders (and other bikers) in Sturgis, South Dakota ever year. I used to watch bike after bike after bike pass through my little hometown on their way to or from Sturgis. Loved to watch them and hear them; never rode one, don't know much about them.

Thanks buttons, I may try a morning post if this doesn't pan out.

That's a first. I'm putting this in my diary.

I feel so special.

I just made a Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance joke yesterday.

Well? You going to share? I could use a good laugh about "Quality."

I know a lot about motorcycles but from a poetic standpoint try Lost Cause or Suffisciant.

I got you now. Well what type of character is this guy? How does he dress? What kind of music does he listen to? If you come up with a brief description I am sure someone that knows about bikes will be able to help you.

Thanks for the tip. Lost Cause was mentioned earlier, too. Might just have to hunt him/her down.

It's a bit difficult to explain and not something that really carries over; it's not reusable.

I wrote a brief thing, for no real reason other than my own interest, about Buddhism. It discussed the different schools of Buddhism, discussing first the two main ones Theravada and Mahayana, and then Vajrayana and Zen. The section about Zen and Vajrayana I entitled "Zen and the Art of Vehicle of the Thunderbolt Maintenance."

I don't think anyone but me would find that funny.

My idea is a 40's something guy on a bike on his way home from Sturgis. Dressed like a regular biker on the road, leather and whatnot. Music? No idea. Let's say 70's rock.

What does he do for a living? Midlife crisis? Has he been riding long?

I'm not sure it's going to be relevant to the story. He's going to meet a chick on the road who's out to "find herself" blah blah. She's in her 20's, intrigued by the nice looking guy on the bike. Likes that he's older, likes that he seems a bit on the dangerous side (hell he could be a teacher for all she knows or cares, she just wants to sew a wild oat with him.)

I'll assume he's been riding long. He knows how to handle his bike and looks sexy as hell doing it.
