I just got a comment, anonymous of course, saying “why do you even write?”

My reply, “because it annoys you”.

So fuck tha trolls, fuck them in their stupid asses (kinda NWA / Kevin Smith crossover there).

If I annoy low-life enough that they want to use sock puppets to vote my stories into oblivion, then I’m clearly messing with their two braincell heads. That’s a win.

So paint a target on my back and fuck you!

I'm sorry Emily, that's just crap behavior. I have a theory that when you published in LW that you gained a lot of troll followers who now are just sitting, waiting for you to publish something just to shit on it. In any case, I think maybe if you're willing to start over, transferring your work slowly over to a new account will return your regular pattern of writing reception, but it'll cost readers who aren't trolls.

I’m not gonna do that, hun.

Tried not being me once, never again.

More than a theory, hun. Or at least having substantive corroborating evidence. They aren’t subtle.

This is always gonna happen and we tend to let our mood be dictated by haters and low scores because we all CRAVE the high comments and good scores (strike that…reverse it).

Let the shit pass you by and enjoy the pleasant comments that come in. I usually find they act as great motivation.

Trying - mostly failing - but trying

Less belligerently, I was overwhelmed by how many people reached out to check if I was OK. Thanks for the kind words. I’ll remember 😊.

Jay & Silent Bob have been great inspiration to me as well. So much I had them make a cameo in my story “Passion ch. 4”.

I know I've pontificated about Litererotica, the Internet, and human nature. So Emily, somehow you've collected this platoon of trolls. It's probably not worth even trying to figure out why it happened.

The best advice I can give you: as soon as one of these comments (or PMs) comes in, don't even read it. Delete it as soon as you know the nature of what's in in. (I keep negative comments because I get so few of them.)

The second thing is: certainly don't respond to it, now matter how tempting it is to fight back. That's what they are looking for you to do. I don't respond either if a comment is not on point about something. It's a waste of your energy.

With any luck, if you do these things, they will get tired and go away. Of course, I can't guarantee that new trolls won't show up! ;)

I think you read enough of our warnings and opinions of the LW category before you posted your story there. And just like me, you chose to wade into them and their "different" ways of looking at life.

I hope you recognize the positives (more views and a more diverse audience) and don't dwell on the handful of a-holes there. Some of them have nothing other than their anonymous comments as their only joy in life. So, try to appreciate that you gave them some perverted pleasure with your story by allowing them the opportunity to hate it.

It can take some time, but when you get past a personal goal of a Red-H and 5-star ratings, you can take that "fuck you" attitude and really own it! It can make you stronger!

Edit: I just clicked "publish" on my next LW story "My Wife Wants a Hall Pass", so it should be public on Monday or Tuesday. I aim to entertain the trolls!

The Lifestyle66 version of "My Wife Wants a Hall Pass:"

"Yeah, okay. Have fun!"

I kid, I kid. I look forward to reading it.

I set myself a challenge. Don’t see anything wrong with that. Couldn’t care less about most comments (the truly vile get deleted).

But I think the site should work out a better way to police malicious ratings. Particularly obvious cluster bombs (either sock puppets or hopping to a new IP to rate anonymously) where the view number hardly moves. No I don’t know the answer, then I don’t run a web-site.

Personally, I’d make each rating tagged to a registered user, like favorites. A tiny fraction of readers rate, so I don’t see how that would dent traffic

The rating is intended to point people to worthwhile content. Malicious multiple 1 bombs corrupt that intent. It hurts readers by robbing them of an (admittedly flawed) indicator.

You read my mind!

In the middle of the story, the MC says “Go have fun. I DO love you. But try to be discreet.”

The description line reads: "Former boyfriend asks her out ... Okay, but with conditions!"

Ratings of any number are what you, the author make of them.

I have some stories which have a view-to-rating ratio of 200 to 1. For every 200 views, only one took the time to click a star to rate it. Those ratings are well over 4.0 are almost a "Meh! Whatever." attitude by most of the readers.

But some of my other stories have about a 25-to-1 ratio! The average rating might be 2.5, but I got them! I made their blood boil!

My focus on the LW category is now knowing I'll get more people there to read my stories than if I posted elsewhere. Those other categories might make my story LOOK better with a Red-H. My Amorous Goods story in SciFi is a Red-H at 4.56, with 99 ratings. The rating-to-view is around 150:1, since it only has 14.5k views. So, not as many people actually viewed it!

My latest story in LW is:
A Hard Lesson
A swinger couple's adventures can be humiliating.
05/13/2023 in Loving Wives Stories

18 favorites 24.3k views 2.8 average/ 215 ratings with 16 comments

The first nine of 16 comments were negative. But I ignore them and moved on to write my next one.

There is a site that does not allow anonymity. That includes comments, "likes" (probably our equivalent of favorites), "favorites" (a duplicative metric, in my opinion), and "messages" (like Lit's PMs). So, yes, it's much calmer over there. They don't have Loving Wives, but they do have Cuckold. Doesn't seem to be any notoriety connected with that category.

The only problem is that they did away with the 1 to 5 rating system, and replaced with it with a score combining the numbers for Likes and Favorites. What? I read their explanation for why they did that, more than once, and I still don't understand it. But, I can live with it.

I get all that. What I don’t get is multiple one bombs all landing within a couple of minutes with no discernible uptick in views.

That’s not a difference of opinion on the merit of a story. That’s abusing the system in order to abuse members. If four people hate my a story, that’s their prerogative. I won’t complain. But if one person gives me four or five 1s within a few minutes and then goes on to do the same throughout every story in my portfolio, that’s not criticism, it’s attempted bullying.

It’s that I wish was harder for trolls to do.

Hopefully they'll be swept at some point. Doesn't help much now though.
