~ I'm curious. Lit authors... What is the most bizarre, scary, or just plain deranged feedback you have ever received?

The first feedback I ever recieved was not really scarey but they sat down and picked apart my story line for line-now I realise that I had asked for criticism but it was rather daunting and it took a lot of nerve to try to write another story.

I did take the time however to respond to it by thanking them for taking the time to really go in depth-I hope my stories have improved since then.

Although my spelling hasn't thankgoodness for spellchecker lol

therapy

I was told by one reader that I desperately needed psychological counselling!

Now if only the reader understood the difference not only between people's tastes, but more importantly, the difference between fact and fiction! Do you think he/she stalks his favourite TV character too???? :)

I wrote my incest story "Mother's Old Photos" in the first person and I got some feedback addressed to the character.

I felt scared and sad, because someone out there cannot tell fact from fiction.

I mean the work was a work of fiction, I had spent days hacking out the plot, the characterisation, storyboarding it in my head until I could see the story like it was a movie in my head. And someone thinks I am simply recounting fact. Plus I do not go in for non-consentual sex or drugging people.

I haven't received anything scary. But the first feddback message I got for my first story was just a bunch of words thrown together to form a grotesque parody of a sentence. It made no sense, but it wasn't frightening.

Thanks..

I appreciate your responses. I have dealt with a few different things in my feedback. Most have been great, but I have had everything from marriage proposals to death threats. Which reminds me of another thread I wanted to start. It's an interesting world online. :p

I have a cyberstalker. Picked him up some time last year in the spring when he discovered that some of my stories are in first person. He wants to "explore my fantasies with me." He's creepy because he addresses me as his love, his darling, and tells me how much he adores me all the time. He sends me pictures of penises, presumably his. Maybe it's had. I told him off back in November, threw a bunch of stories out in December and haven't heard from him since. I didn't KM rant either. I was nicely polite. The StudMuffin ranted. And all ya'll think I'm bad...

Re: KM's stalker

Baby, that is truly scary. On the other hand, you have to figure you wrote so well that somebody (even a weirdo or idiot) believed it. Still...

For awhile I had a reader who would say things like, "I would have liked this story better if Mrs. Reid's husband found out she was cheating on him and he divorced her and she lost everything." He always wanted the characters to pay a terrible price for their indiscrections. I don't know why he would read erotic stories if he wanted to characters to suffer, but maybe his wife had cheated on him and he wanted these characters to suffer some bad goddam consequences.

Many of my stories are about younger men and older women and I had a reader who said she was a woman in her forties and she described, in wonderful detail, what she would like to do to me. I mean, she wrote some extremely hot stuff, and it was so good I wrote her back to say that she shouldn't waste her time fucking me, she should write stories and post them. She sent me a few pictures of herself, but they were pics of a woman who has an amateur site on the 'Net, so, alas, she was pulling my leg. Haven't heard from her in awhile, maybe she's burning up the Top Lists right now.

Yes, Killermuffin...sounds familiar

I had a guy that sent me similar emails for almost four months. It was creepy. He actually sent pictures of himself and he looked very intense. He had pet names for me...had planned our future...(shivers). It was really wierd. He talked to me as if we were close intimate friends, in spite of the fact that my few emails in response were telling him I wasn't interested.

They are all pretty scary, all my feedback has being positive or did give critisism that was useful. Why people bother wasting thier time to insult or give pointless opinions is beyond me

Someone who read A Warrior's Tale: Elvin Encounter (shameless plug) e-mailed me and offered to help me with whatever I needed. I don't know what she meant but took it as a polite gesture. That aside, I don't think I've gotten any bad feedback, such as these stalkers and whatnot. I don't even think the girl who said that she'd help me with whatever meant anything negative, just worded it oddly.
Except, this one chick (I'm going to rant a little, way off subject too) from Milena's diary, wrote me for saying that he "advertisement" didn't belong on the ORP board. SHe got pissed off and wrote me a nasty e-mail. DOes that count?

That counts Quiet_Cool...

Actually, after reading your response...I was thinking. I have never had any negative (as in critical) responses to my stories, except one. A guy wrote to me and explained that I should write my stories in third person instead of first, and they would be much more enjoyable. It was funny to me actually because I generally write in first person and get compliments on that all the time. His advice was very specific to helping my "writing career."

Most of my feedback is from the male gender thanking me for good masturbation material and sometimes giving me details. I enjoy that... I will admit... This is only a hobby for me, not a career aspiration like it is for many. I definitely don't take it that seriously, but respect all those professional writers out there.

I have received every kind of feedback I can think of. Everything from death threats (yes really!) to a woman who wanted me to tie her up and whip her and offered to give me sex if I would (I declined).

I suppose it comes from dallying in BDSM category, cause both extreams have come from those stories.

Most of the feedback I receive is wonderful and supportive, a few are bizarre, like

"Oh great, getting aids on your wedding night! What a wonderful way to start a marriage."

and some are just funny, like

"way go dude! fuking awsom I luv ur shet!"

I always respond with at least a "thanks for your opinion", if the person gives their email address. I did miss once, but later responded when I realized he had indeed left his email address buried inside the feedback.

Fortunately, most of the feedback I've gotten on my stories has been positive (crosses fingers), with no random acts of weirdness (what I call RAWstuff) or anything close to what KM or the others have experienced.

However, I did have a strange request once: back when all I wrote was fan fiction, I'd done a story based on Disney's "Gargoyles", where I got the two lead characters - Goliath and Elisa Maza - to consumate their love for one another.

After six weeks when it posted on a.s.s.t, I got an e-mail with the following in it (along with the high praise for my writing):

"Can you do a story where Goliath and Elisa have sex with Goliath's daughter Anglea?"

Now, granted I have done incest stories, but at the time I'd never dabbled in that topic before. My reaction was somewhat unsavory, considering that I feel it's okay to write original characters in taboo situations, I could never subject coprighted characters like those (or say the Flinstones, etc. etc.) to some of the things that I can come up with in my stories.

Needless to say, the request was never filled. ^_^

Although I've only been on Literotica for a few months, and just recently had my newest completed story finished, I received some interesting feedback just a few days after it was on the website. My story, Pick Your Poison, is a BDSM story written in first person about a master and his slave. Punishment, oral sex, blah blah blah...

Anyway, the first email wanted to know why "I" was such an awful Master, and scolded me on treating "her" so badly (I deliberately left out pronouns for a reason). I ignored it, and a few days after the same person was asking if "I" would teach them a lesson... sort of strange considering they were criticizing the main characters technique days earlier.

Weird.

unusual feedback

I got an email a few days back regarding my celebrity story using the actresses from Xena. In the story I made a passing reference to the TV show Hercules and misidentified the lead actor. In the feedback, the writer pinted out that I had the last name incorrect. Now, I was definitely wrong and I don't begrudge the comment. What puzzled me is nothing else was said, positive, negative or indifferent. Just a correction on the name. I classify it as unusual because someone took the time to send me the feedback, didn't vote (it's had only 8 votes for months so I knw they didn't vote) and they made no other comment on the story. Seems like a lot of effort on a minor point that I am not going to bother correcting. I hope that didn't turn him (or her) off to erotic literature for life!

I have only received a few feedbacks for the two tales I have on this site. It has all been nice or at least polite.

One odd case: I exchanged a few emails with a woman that kept praising me for my writing, and I kept probing to find out what tale she was referring to (and she would say all of them). Some of her comments didn't gel and eventually I practically pleaded for her to identify any element.. and she went away.

I had a site of sketches for a while, but I kept getting feedback from guys that wanted more pain or humiliation, which wasn't the way I intended them at all. They were just what could have been scenes out of my writing, but the writing embarrassess me less and explains itself better.

I always get lovely feedback. I only once had negative feedback and it said...KRAAAAPPPPPP. That was the whole message. I get lots of penis pics but they look suspiciously like the ones at massivecocks.com. LOLOL. Oh yea......and Mr. geo fraser kindly sends long missives correcting all my historical inaccuracies. Smilez.

I got my first nasty email! I'm not a virgin anymore. An anonymous coward (they're always anonymous, aren't they?) wrote about my "It's and Its" informative essay:

Drivel. Condescending, humorless drivel. Do you actually make money teaching?"

Well, at least the jerk punctuated his email correctly. :)

And, yes, I make money teaching. Neener neener.

I recently posted my first story, and got some very nice letters, several of which offered helpful, valid criticism. However I did get one very nasty message from someone who told me he had rated my story a 1, because it involved a white woman having sex with a black man, and he is determined to keep the ratings low on all such stories.

Racists! Gotta love 'em. They are the only thing keeping lawyers and politicians from the bottom of the evolutionary ladder.
