Most atheists are really just anti-Christian

They view other religions as basically Christianity with cosmetic changes. They assume that other traditions are also faiths--systems that put the same emphasis on unsupported belief and scriptural inerrancy that Christianity does.

If you don't like Christianity, fine! I don't like it either! But don't assume that the things you object to in Christianity are universal to all religions.

As an atheist, I'm finding more and more self-labeled "atheists" today are anything but. Lots of "born-again non-Christians" for sure. They're generally insufferable, and I have no issue with putting them in their place.

In contrast, I've never once tried to convince another person to become an atheist. It's not for just anyone.

I’m agnostic, not atheist, but I’ll answer this question still-

I just think people are looking for answers and finding wrong information sometimes. It’s info I can’t accept. You tell me God gives us free will and then will take it away at some future point, stick us in the ground or some fiery pit forever… that doesn’t make sense to me as an act of a loving deity. I can’t know God, I’ve always been strong enough personally without religion except as a brief illusion or metaphor for various philosophical concepts. I don’t commit unnecessary violence, I don’t steal, I lie and write erotic fiction only for fun, same reason I drift through relationships- it’s the hand life has dealt me. Someone commits to me without suborning my polyamorous empath nature, I will gladly accept their love. Long as they don’t force me to submit to some pile of crud. It’s not the forgiveness and peace part of Christianity with which I have issues, it’s the fundamentalist “turn or burn” crap, that ain’t my way and if it’s God’s, I’d rather not believe in that God. I’ll figure out how I can work with God when I meet Him (if God is a Him). For now, people are troublesome enough.

Christianity is like socialism. The people who usually close to be it the loudest aren't actually ones and they do all kinds of horrible things that makes everyone hate that term they are claiming but it really has nothing to do with that. It's certainly not wrong to dislike those people or what they are doing but it's inaccurate for them to claim it's because of that term.

I'm anti.religion affecting my life.

Pick any religion....and then believe what you want.

I’ve always been a big fan of Julie Delpy, and I subscribe to her views on religions in general. - Especially this little nugget about the misogynistic nature of religions and religion’s stunting effects on the mind:

“Women are always bad, women are always sin. Every religion, even Buddhism. It's supposedly better? Bulls**t. Everything is the same, everything is putting women down. It's really awful. And that's why I'm completely non-religious at every level. It's always misogynistic, and I find that unacceptable. It's also the complete end of research and the mind expanding. Intellectually, it kills you. It destroys looking for answers.”

That ^ about sums it up.

The Abrahamics which make up 99% of anything you're likely to run into in the US or Western Europe really are mostly the same with cosmetic changes. If anything as some could point out at least Muslims and Jews are much less likely to pick and choose because its not JUST a control tool for them, it is something they at least do a good job of pretending they believe as a whole, obviously there are outliers.

I remember coming home from Sunday school and going down the basement to play with an HO car and train set. There were some buildings and people and a mountain or two.

To me that was 'God'.

Made about as much sense as any of the rest of the hooey.

As I said on the GB Blurt ... 'And then Man made God!'

It's a way of explaining how things work. And a way of controlling others.

When I worked in the Middle East, I was just as repulsed by fundamentalist Islamic religion as I am with fundamentalist Christianity in the Americas. I also resist theocracy in any format.

It amuses me to see Americans so anti-Taliban, then look around at Texas and Florida ruled by the Christian Taliban. All of their goals and policies are exactly the same. Suppression of free speech, of women, of minorities - all hail the patriarchy!

If you aren't an American why do you care? And if you are you can check out any time you like and leave. Maybe the Philippines would take you...

Not true. I think the idea of a god is ridiculous, whether it's the one that worships the dead guy on a stick or another religion.

So the fact that we don't appreciate the damage done by you we should flee. Why are you still here after deciding sometime under Obama that America wasn't great?

What delusional state leads you to believe I have done any damage to my country? You and your liberal cry baby bitches are the only ones crying constantly about how horrible this country is.

I've never once said the United States wasn't great. So unless you can prove I said it shut the fuck up about that.
