Hmmmm I remember running across a thread that delved into the topic of using mosquito nets in Africa...and how they were desperately needed. I can't find that thread now, but thought the author might like to hear that the U.K. is planning to send 20 million mosquito nets to Africa. Way to go guys and gals :D

Does anyone else see a problem with sending mesquito nets to countries like the Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia and Camaroon where people are being murdered and starving instead of sending food?

The mosquito nets are AS WELL AS sending food and financial aid.

Didn't say they weren't sending food and financial aid...was just the quote I was reading at the time mentioned only the nets and preventing malaria.

From HM treasury's website:

Tackling global poverty remains a key priority for the UK Government, as demonstrated at the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR07), which announced significant increases to the Department of International Development's (DFID) budget. Over the CSR07 period, DFID's budget will grow by an average of 11 per cent a year, rising from £5.4 billion in 2007-08 to £7.9 billion a year by 2010-11. Taken together with wider Government contributions to Official Development Assistance (ODA), this puts the UK on track to meet the EU's collective commitment and spend 0.56 per cent of Gross National Income (GNI) on ODA in 2010-11, on its way to reaching the UN's recommended level of 0.7 per cent ODA/GNI in 2013, two years ahead of the EU's target. DFID estimates that UK development assistance is helping to lift three million people permanently out of poverty each year.

On top of that the UK's charitable organisations have many significant initiatives funded by private donations. One of my friends, an overweight diabetic pensioner, is currently helping to build a school in Africa. He has personally raised 27,000 pounds for the materials. Now he is helping the locals to build the school. He should be back in about five weeks. (He was the person who arranged for elephant shit to be delivered to the village to improve their crops).

When 6 million people have died from malaria . . . . No.
