I think you are way off base. If the Republicans had merely remained silent on social issues we may have President Mitt. If they had actually not engaged in the war on women then Obama would have lost by 3M votes.
Once the GOP breaks the grip of the fundamentalist Christians 'free enterprise, individual freedom, and limited government." is going to work for them again. The things is - they never will!
John Stephanopolis, Democrat operative pretending to be an honest, unbiased member of the press proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Republicans were not going to be allowed to ficus on economic issues over social issues in the Republican debate. The Democrats do not appeal to reason, they appeal to the more powerful nature of feelings. The Republicans will never be allowed to be free of the Christian problem as long as one can be found in their ranks and even though we know Democrats profess loudly their Christianity, they are not "those" types of Christians.
The argument here is that with the Democrats having fully disenfranchised this segment of the population in their ranks, that now the Republicans too should do it, leave them with no representation, and that that is going to win favor with Democrat Culture Warriors, but truly, I do not see this happening, as I pointed out in my opening comments this morning. The Democrat have to have an enemy and Republicans are it, no amount of pandering and window dressing is going to get them off of that hook.
I do not think that Democrats telling Republicans how best to win is being done in a totally honest fashion, I think rather what they are telling them is this is what we fear, so if you jettison it, we will feel better about you for having made the sacrifice of having insufficient number to ever win again, with the additional benefit that we will then easily be able to point to our team the actions of the guilty and now that we know they are guilty by their own admission, then we can sentence them to political irrelevance because they are still the party of all that; they're just lying now to deceive our voters, but we are not about to let that happen. Just ask Candy Crowley or Scott Pelley...
