Does anyone out there know the best ways to curve nausea? I've tried everything the doctor has recommended and it's all flopped. So, any mothers out there who found a secret cure for morning sickness or anyone who has had the stomach flu and knows a remedy to this, please offer your advice. If I puke one more time today I think my lungs might come up with the water I've been drinking. LOL

Thanks in advance

Have you tried the wrist bands they have for sea sickness and motion sickness. They helped with my last one. You can find them at most drug stores.

I don't know how to stop it, but if you're going to be sick anyway, Sprite is the easiest thing to do it with. It masks that bitter taste and does't tear up your throat. I also found PLAIN (no butter) white toast to be better than crackers.

Sniffing a drop of peppermint essence (extract will work too) will help ease the queasies.

Good luck, I hope it passes soon.

(((HUG))) the only thing i found that helped me was to keep something in my stomach. That way when I lost the battle (and I fought it everytime) I wouldn't get the dry heaves that way because those are the worst.
I did find a piece of cheese toast worked wonders. For those of you not familiar with this delicacy you simply melt a slice of cheese on a piece of bread. I found the browner the better. I don't know why that worked for me but it did.

Maybe this wasn't such a good idea

Because now I'm hungry and nauseated. lol

Thanks for the advice though. I'm not used to dealing with morning sickness, I didn't have it when I was pregnant with my daughter and now, with this kid, I do.

I've done the cracker thing, but not plain white toast. Gatoraid was a suggestion from my own mother so maybe I should listen to her and CB. I've been living off of 7-up and water and you're right Kitten Eyes, it does help with not stripping my throat raw. Cheese sounds so good right now but I'm too afraid of throwing up again. And I didn't even know they had wristbands for sea sickness, do you know if they're safe for unborn babies?

I've decided that I'm going to spend the next 6 months puking so I again thank you for the advice. I hope it helps.

The wrist band is a form of accupressure, it should be completely safe. Try the Sprite instead of 7UP, Sprite is smoother. :)

Ginger has been used for nausea for a centuries. Try ginger pop, candy, tea or just chewing slivers of raw ginger. Check out health food stores. Also peppermint stuff cause it is also supposed to fight nausea. Peppermint candy and tea worked for me. Good luck cause nausea and vomiting is vile!

Well, Ez, I'd like to help you out hon, but I never had morning sickness with Christopher. However, my Momma used to always feed me 7-up when I had the flu. (Gawd, I hate 7-up!!!) I've found that coke is actually better to drink when you have either the flu or a soar throat. All that acid in coke will neutralize the acid in your stomach. Have you tried your saltine thing yet hon?

P.S.

I only skimmed this thread by the time I posted mine. I just now noticed this post! :) Anyway, I could tell ya'll a pretty nasty lil' story about when I spewed ONLY 7-up. It was pretty freaky seeing all the clear liquid come out of my mouth! lol Anyway, bye. ;)

Yup yup yup

I've done the whole saltine thing with the salt free crackers (Because of the high blood pressure)and it works about 1 time out of every 10 times I try. I went to the store and got some Sprite and white bread. I think that will be my new dinner ritual. I'd like to meet the person who called it "Morning sickness" because I'd have called "Morning, Noon and Night sickness", it seems more appropriate.

Between this, the headaches and the backaches, I'm starting to wonder if I should ask people to put me out of my misery because I fel like a dying horse. LOL

<Cocking gun...but looking at those sad, sad blue eyes of Baby.> Sawwy hon. I can't do it. I can't stand to her Baby say to Mike, "Lindsay killed my Momma!" lol

P.S.

Hell, Mike might punish me by making me her surrogate Momma! God no!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hee hee hee... j/k

Hi Ezzie!!

We haven't officially met before. First off, I'd like to introduce myself. The name's BlondeBeauty. Although I am young, I worked in the neonatal unit at a hospital for three years. Here's my advice, I hope something works!

-Try eating crackers before you get out of bed in the morning
-High fat diets aggravate nausea, because it takes fats alot longer to leave your stomach than carbs or proteins. That means that you have to eat a lot of low fat, bland food: unbuttered cooked vegetables, soft fruits (especially bananas), most soups, crackers, cereal, toast, potatoes, noodles, unbuttered rice, poached or boiled eggs, etc.
-Try sucking on hard candies throughout the day
-Eat frequent, small meals
-Try wearing one of those bracelets used for motion sickness, I've heard that they work too
-Rest: experts often link fatigue and stress with morning sickness...that means it's okay to NAP...woo-hoo- an excuse!
-You might be anxious about giving in to food cravings, but oftentimes you can trust them...alot of women crave salty or tart foods at the same time (ex. potato chips and lemonade) and they are actually good for you when eaten in combination! Go figure!
-Stay out of the kitchen as much as possible...that may not be very realistic, but most pregnant women have hypersensitive noses...it's a very good idea to open windows while you're cooking...or even go take a walk if someone else is...
-Ginger seems to be an effective remedy too, try putting fresh ginger root into hot water or tea...also try gingerale or gingersnaps for a similar effect...
-If worst comes to worst, doctors can prescribe vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine) for morning sickness...the normal dose is usually 25-50 mg 3 times a day...

Sorry it's so long, but I wanted to give you as many suggestions as possible...I hope it passes soon...let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them...

Nice to meet you, BlondeBeauty

And thank you for the tips, I too hope some of them work.

Some of the things you said make perfect sense too. I'm always very tired and stressed so I nap a lot. I also have the hypersensitive sense of smell. Certain things can trigger the morning sickness and I've noticed it's not all food related. Things as simple as my dishwashing detergent can send me running to the bathroom. I've had the potato chip/lemonade cravings, I just thought I was weird. lol I have a lot of weird cravings that revolve around the salty/sweet combo, especially popcorn and chocolate pudding mixed together. (Don't ask)

I'm really glad you said potatoes and rice we're helpful, I'd live off them alone if I could. And since I usually don't butter or salt them due to the pregnancy related high blood pressure, that should work well for me.

I do have one question for you though, regarding my prenatal vitamins. I feel like I'm kind defeating the purpose of taking them since I just throw them back up. Any suggestions on how to keep them down or what foods to replace them with?

Thanks again for the help and advice, BB. And from everyone for that matter. It's really appreciated.

P.S. Hi Ben! lol

I'm not sure what kind of prenatal vitamins you're taking, but I do know that the iron is some brands can be especially aggravating...does yours have iron in it? It's only an idea though...

I can't think of many other ways than the tips I listed above...your biggest concern should be dehydration. During the part of the day when you're not feeling nauseous (the whole 5 minutes from the sound of it...poor dear), drink as much fluid as possible. Dehydration is a major cause of vomitting.

I also thought of some other helpful foods, hope they work too: gelatin desserts (Jello), flavored frozen desserts (like Popsicles), pretzels, tea, chicken broth, cheese and crackers, nuts, milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, even peanut butter (for the carbs) spread on apple slices or celery should help...

Also, I mentioned eating crackers before you get out of bed in the morning. It's a really good idea. Try keeping a package of whole-grain crackers by your bed and then wait 10 or 20 minutes before you actually get up. Then, move around as slowly as possible in the morning...

Good luck, hun...fire them questions at me if you've got more...I've seen it all and heard it all before and would love to help you out...

Quick note - if you are going to drink tea, stay away from the caffienated Lipton type. It works like a diuretic and that's the last thing you need with "morning" sickness.

I can't thank you ladies enough

I decided to start lightly with some of your suggestions and my dinner this evening consisted of a banana, some rice and a cup of decaf tea. This is honestly the first time today that I haven't felt sick.

Now as for the prenatal vitamins, I'm not really sure if they have iron in them or not. I know they're loaded with folic acid though and they're called "Prenate Advance" I just feel like they can't possibly be helping if I can't keep them down. And one last thing, don't mind my stupid question here but what's a diuretic, Kitten Eyes? The term sounds familiar but I can't quite place it.

Now, who has a magic cure for headaches? LOL

Pardon my frankness Ezzie, but a diuretic is something that makes you have to urinate more frequently.

more bathroom stops-->loss of fluids-->dehydration-->vomitting

A very bad combo...

I don't know much about Prenate Advance, but I'll look up some info on it and post back to ya!

Oh, well, then she's right. I don't need that. LOL As it stands, about 75% of my day is spent in the bathroom.

And BB, I tried to look up info on Prenate Advance and came up empty. And don't mind my emotional state tonight but I'd hug you if I could for all the advice and time you're putting into this for me. *Hugs* Oops, sorry if my round belly almost knocked you over. lol

No problem Ezzie, I'm glad I could help.

I looked up Prenate Advance and didn't find much either. However, it does have carbonyl iron in it, and that could be what's bothering you. I'm not sure.

There was also another interesting bit of info, and I quote "Allergic sensitization has been reported following oral administration of folic acid." Maybe that's what's bothering you?

I'm not sure, but my guess is that it's just morning sickness running it's course. A bad case of it, but I doubt it's the medicine (reactions are somewhat rare).

Sending lots of hugs and an e-box of kleenex!

WARNING: THIS IS AN OLD THREAD...

I was just wondering today when several older Lit members disappeared, Ezzie being one of them. Wonder what they are up to...

Just thought this might be a good thread to bring back for all the Mommy-to-Be's that I keep hearing about.:)

Post your Mommy-to-Be woes or suggestions here. Might be helpful.

:)

Well, I won't go into the gal's personal bizz here, but being her real life best friend I can assure you she's alive an tickin'. :D
