More unbelievable

Its unfortunate that in todays society that theses countries still belive in this sort of behavior. I think your thought process is great but I would think not many people would even think twice about changing vacation plans.

Well, it hadn't occurred to me to go there in the first pace, but when it comes to making vacation plans, I try to avoid insane theocracies. For one thing, I despise that sort of thinking. For another, I wouldn't feel safe.

I became acquainted with a guy from Maldives when I was living in Japan. Really nice guy, honestly. But the first time I met him, we went out to dinner with a small group. One guy comes over to the Maldivian guy and asks him something. When the other guy goes away, the Maldivian guy turns to me and says "Man, I hate gays!! Did you see how he was standing so close to me? It's like he's gay, man!!"

I didn't say anything at the time, for various reasons. But I didn't get too close to him over the time we worked together. I know Maldives is a Muslim nation, but you don't have to be a complete asshole about it. And that he felt comfortable just turning to me and saying that really put me off.

Nice guy otherwise, but I didn't get too close to him for that reason.

So yeah...count me out for visiting Maldives as well.
