1. What effect does taking hormones have on weight loss/gain issues?

2. Where (online) can i buy some falsies? And are they usually waterproof? Would enjoy taking a bath with them.

<update> I've been CD'd at home many times now, any time i'm not expecting to go out i will have my bra and cutesy shirt on. I'm finding that...to be a girl you need new muscles, i've been working out to make my chest and shoulders stronger to support the weight of breasts...because sometimes my shoulders ache if i've had my bra on for too long.

hormones will lower your metabolism which means weight loss due to loss of fat will decrease while your ability to gain muscle will be decreased.

Rana,
Data supports that the metabolism lowers with the addition of Hormones, in my case I have had an increase of of anxiety and stress related to them....I have been loosing weight faster. than before hormones...

Do not be in a rush to build your upper body, men have a larger rib cage usually so the less you carry on your chest, muscle wise the more slim or fem you will appear.

As for buying falsies, I posted some links in the gaff thread a day or two ago. The only one I remember of the top of my head is www.crossdresser.com - they have women's clothing specifically made to fit a man's body, as well as breast forms, gaffs, opaque stockings, etc. Check the gaffe thread for some more links.

I would still be careful once you begin taking the hormones. It all depends on the type of hormones and the dose. Some people could drop weight, others put on. You'll need to check with your doctor and see about what needs to be done to assist you so you won't loose too much!

The other thing you have to be aware of once you start taking hormones is osteo pherosis (sp?). It is aside effect that can cause unrepairable damage, causing the bones to be come brittle and easily broken. I know of a number of post-op MTF who suffer from this, and who require medication to control it.

IIRc its driectly related to the change from testosterone to eostrogen as the major sexual hormone in the body.

I haven't done research, but I would guess it's not so much the change from testosterone to estrogen, as much as it is having estrogen. Osteoporosis affects MANY women, I think it's something like 1 in 3 or 1 in 4. It's a very high number...pretty much every woman will be touched in some way by osteoporosis. It's MEGA-common.

And actually, certain forms of hormonal birth control can increase a woman's chances for developing osteoporosis. I was on Depo-Provera (injectable BC) for 5 years. After about 4.5 years on it, I found a new study that said Depo greatly increases how brittle a woman's bones are, and you shouldn't be on it more than 2 years. I had to get a bone density scan when I was 24! The results were basically meaningless, because they don't know how dense a woman's bones SHOULD be at 24...usually women don't get scanned until at least age 30 and often later. And Depo is hormonal BC, so I would say that simply having the hormones is what increases a woman's risk, whether she is natal or trans.

I didnt realise the ratio of women to have it was that high.
Its worse though that I dont know a post op MTF who hasnt got the problem. I would recomend anybody on hormones to regularly to get checked by their specialist.

I just checked Wikipedia and I learned something new:
"It is estimated that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 worldwide have osteoporosis."

I didn't realize it was so common in men, too. Mostly I only hear about it relating to women.

A lot is genetic disposition too. There are also alternatives that were not available to people a few years back...natural progesterone gets broken down by the digestive system so until recently it was not availble....micronized progesterone allows it to be absorbed by the body. It is a true progesterone with out as many side effects. The reality is that all the scientific studies have been done on women for hormone replacement therapy. The use of hormones in Male to Females is a big unknown. Because of this Doctors are very conservative in their application of such things. For instance one threat from estrogen is deep vein thrombosis, the liver controls the clotting factor so when malfunctioning can produce more clotting factor increasing the chance of DVT, estrogen strains and can damage the liver as can the anti-androgen products out there. There are different types of estrogen products out there...some are safer than others.
The use of Depo-provera and Progesterone is still debated by the various doctors.. Some claim that it does aid in breast development by helping to promote the milk duct system. There are studies that suggest that it helps the body to utilize calcium better on those using estrogen by helping to prevent Oestoporosis and promote hair and fingernail growth in MTFs. They can also cause some mood swings. I know my nails have become more brittle since I started hormones.
The anti androgens themselves can cause a host of problems, messing up ones endocrine and adrenal systems, causing excessive potassuim levels in the body.

Basically do not mess around without the help of an Medical Doctor. Blood tests are required for monitoring these things. :)

Do you know which ones caused this? While I was married, I was on different types. One was higher hormones due to endometriosis.

Pretty much all hormonal birth control increases a woman's risk of developing osteoporosis. Depo-Provera, though, appears to give a much greater risk. If you google for "osteoporosis" and "birth control" you will find a lot, especially about Depo.

I just discovered there may be a class action lawsuit pertaining to Depo and osteoporosis...I submitted my name as a potential complainant.

heart attack and and heart failure can be caused by deep vein thrombosis, it can also cause a stroke.

High blood pressure can be caused by elevated potassium levels caused by anti-androgens, it can also damage internal organs...more specifically the heart and the kidneys.

Antiandrogens and Estrogen can cause liver damage in some people.

I do not know...about aging....grin... we all face that. My changed skin is more translucent because it is thinner. I think it makes me look younger.

Wrinkles - Have not heard of that one yet.

a stimulated adrenal system and raised potassium levels can cause an accelerated and irregular heart beat. Both can be caused by anti-androgens.
