So besides the obvious, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, &c., what are some other interesting mythological or monstrous humanoids? I'm planning out my Halloween Contest Entry, but I'm having trouble thinking of other examples. So far I have:
Succubi
Vampires
Werewolves
Ghosts
Mermaids

Any other ideas?

Why not have a look at the Monster Girl Dictionary?

There's a demon in Japanese mythology - the name escapes me - that looks like a lovely young woman wearing a mask (Japanese convention is to wear a surgical mask during flu season, to prevent spreading disease). She approaches strangers and asks them if they think she's beautiful. If the stranger answers, "yes," the demon removes her mask to reveal the lower half of her face is grotesquely disfigured. She then asks the stranger if he still thinks she's beautiful. If the stranger doesn't convincingly reassure her that she's beautiful, the demon devours him.

Perhaps you could spin this into a scenario where the unwitting victim commits himself to having sex with the demon, rather than just giving her a verbal assurance of her beauty.

EDIT: Also, there's the old jewish myth of the gollem - a clay statute than can be bought to life as a magical servant. Perhaps you could have an awkward young rabbi's son who decides to make himself a girlfriend in a pottery class, and bring her to life with some ancestral family magic.

Don't forget the Chalupacabra - a demon that sucks the blood out of Taco Bell employees.

Impossible. It's a chain restaurant. Their company would've already sucked them dry before the Chalupacabra got there.

And don't forget the Skeezix and the Pipsisiwah.

I like the pumpkins...

Rolling down the street in hot pursuit, shooting their pumpkin seeds at a young couple who stole away from the party to have sex at the near-by farmer's pumpkin patch...

How about a horror story based on "The Great Pumpkin"? But instead of a benevolent hero as he is described by Linus, he actually turns out to be a horrible, bone-grinding monster?
