I was wondering if we could get an itinary for Moderators. I mean, there has to be some sort of guidelines they follow to do their job.
I understand it's voluntary, but shouldn't we at least get a list of things that are supposed to be done?
How long are they on?
What powers they have to threads, or posts in threads?
Should they have an open forum for suggestions/opinions/criticizm?
Right now we're in the dark here. Some answers would be helpful.

You're not paying the Moderators, or for anything on this site. It's a free site, and the Moderators are volunteers.

I posted this a few days ago. I'm repeating it. Please read:

If you see a misplaced or spam post, rather than responding to it, please don't hesitate to report it. That's done by simply clicking the link in the bottom right hand of the post that reads "Report this post to a moderator". This will send an email to the moderators and to admin, and one of us will move or remove it. I was doing a prowl around the boards and happened to find a couple misplaced posts, but they could have been moved much faster if we were made aware of them. Thanks a ton, and have fun!

Hey listen, since I got your attention, what does it take to get my posting status changed? I am drawing closer and closer to 1000 and I am sick of seing the word Guru.

It's really a case by case thing on how one gets picked as moderator. I got my Mod job because a friend didn't want to continue with her part in a forum and asked Laurel to pass it onto me.

I got my mod job because I read all of the threads on this forum and because I have, believe it or not, one of those personalities that moderates well. I don't take sides here and I don't participate in very many threads. I haven't built up a network of ORP "friends" and "enemies" like most people who RP here frequently. Therefore, I cannot be accused of favoritism. A long time ago, I offered to help Laurel out if she ever needed it, and right now this forum needs an active moderator since Amrosious is never here and Ravenloft is rarely, if ever, here. I, on the other hand, am here several times a day at all hours of the day. Upon Ravenloft's return, I expect my moderator duties to go the way of the dinosaurs. My job as a moderator is simple, make sure that all posts conform to the BB's rules and that all threads are ORP threads. Spam will be deleted, and personals/SRP threads moved.

Personally, I think there is no need for more than one moderator per forum and there is certainly no call for four of them in one forum. However, two are en absentia, and I have no idea what's going on with the poohlive thing. That's Laurel's call. I asked if she wanted me to rescind the moderator thing, now that she has poohlive doing it, but she wants to leave things as they are for now, to see how things work out.

Anyone who wants to be a moderator is suspect, including myself. I wanted to be a mod because spam and SRP's irritate me when they're here and no one else was doing it, so I became a moderator. Anyone who wants to be a moderator when there is a perfectly capable, honest one, on the job is suspect because how can they contribute any more to the forum than the one moderator is already doing? Is it a power trip?

Anyway, a mod's rules are very simple.

1) Move threads that blatantly belong in other forums.
2) Edit any thread that has a minor involved in sexual situations in it. The only edit should reflect a change in the age to conform with site rules.
3) Refer any "spats" between players that need mediation to Laurel for handling. To date, there haven't been any.

That's it. Nothing special. No perks, no bonuses, no nada. I guarantee that any moderator who does anything outside of those three things will find their status yanked before you can say jack robinson.

The lack of things to do with your spare time can be a big help in reaching such a goal. My first 1,000 came from joining and posting in an average of seven SRP/ORP threads during my first couple of months at Lit.

Pointless posts here and there can help, but I'd suggest doing them in moderation. If done in excess, it'll most likely tick of more then a few other posters. And I also wouldn't suggest doing them in in any IC threads.

Okay, now all I'm doing is encouraging people to post nonsense. Think I'll shut up for now.

Whatever happened to that dark guy. He doesn't post enough anymore. He was one of the guy's I looked up to. Not so much as Ravenloft, Rolland, Ambro, or the other mods. but I look up to him still.

Damn I miss the good'ol days when Vixen was a regular character in everything, and Lokken was usually the badguy.

Hey, no need to get all roused about about this. You have to admit that, even in the past few months things have changed here greatly. In fact, I believe it was from the latest catastrophe in the U.S. that made a lot of people think real life was chaotic enough.
I have to be honest. It wasn't like the old days, at all. Even before you Cryo, there were some bitchin threads that boggled the mind. But, of course the only one's who'd know about them are Roland and Moneytalks. Both of whom are still around, but not posting avidly anymore.
It's ok though. This is actually better, we've now got new authors, who are ready to be molded and shaped into good role players here. We've got the oldies, who are willing to help out, and show these young whipper snappers what for...
And a few middle aged ones who transitioning and ready for a bigger challenge.
The only thing that needs to happen now is to challenge them.

Well Cryo, I'm finally glad to get a rise out of you. It's been a while since I've seen some good old fashioned anger from someone on here, or even good old fashioned sense of propriety. So, if your ready and willing to lead us along with Morgoth to the promised land, when and where will you do it? This is not meant as a demeaning remark but, if you want to lead, better be willing to harness yourself to the cart and be ready to pull. Get a clue, your not the most important poster in the role playing forum. Infact it's people like you that has made me stop posting in this forum so much. You want everything done the way you want it, if someone else starts something, you try to change their rules to fit you. And you are way to obsessed with this chrono man shit.
