Problem is, so many people have voiced problems with the dates in May. But if there's enough interest, maybe we want to have a pre-gathering gathering, say mid-May?

I'd definitely come to a beach thing...but no swimming for this girl, I really can't stand how dirty lakes feel.

What do you guys think? It's getting to be sorta short notice, so we'd have to get something planned soon if we're doing it mid-May....

I think somewhere with a patio would be lovely. Minneapolis would be best for me, but it really doesn't matter, it's not much further.

My guess is, if we have a gathering on May 16, it will be a small one. Then we could definitely have one June 7, 13, or 14 also, a larger gathering that most people can come to.

Since this needs to be decided soon, I'd like anyone who's interested in a May 16 gathering to either post here or PM me to say they are interested. Please include your info (A/S/L) if I don't already have it, and please do this by Wednesday the 7th, so we have more than a week's notice to decide if we're doing this. As long as a few people can make it, I think it seems like a good idea...just an informal meeting to get people acquainted before the big gathering.

Hey Kerani - the 16th sounds like a good idea so that a lot of people can make one or the other. i think I might be able to swing that date as well. I'm trying to think of places with good patios. Dixies is out of the downtown area and has a great outdoor patio. Haven't checked out a lot of downtown since it has been warm. Who's got good sized patios there?

Oh, I finally saw Secretary last night. Terrific movie! Had always wanted to see it, especially after recommendations from you and other friends. Everyone, go rent this flick.

I would totally go check out places, but I'm halfway across the country....I've never been to Dixies, where is it? Does anyone have any other places that are worth checking out? I'm thinking we need to make decisions soon...

OK, so when I was at the NYC gathering, we all went back to a hotel room, just for somewhere to hang out that's a little more discussion-oriented than a loud restaurant or bar. I'm not sure it will work that way in MN, since I doubt anyone's staying in a hotel...but if anyone wants to offer their hotel room/apartment/house/whatever as a post-gathering place, that would be terrific....otherwise, we'll just have to find a good place for the gathering where we can talk and not be interrupted.

Other things...I need a DEFINITIVE list of people who are going to the May 16th thing, by next Wednesday. If we make reservations and they don't include you, we might not be able to fit you in...and we should probably make reservations at least a few days in advance.

I do hope you guys are enjoying your lovely weather...it's only 54 here, so I'm totally jealous. Have a good weekend!

OK, this seems to be a good way to do things....below is a list of people who have told me they are interested in the May 16 gathering. We haven't set a time or location yet, but it will be in the evening and at some sort of restaurant with a patio, at least close to the cities, so that should give you guys an idea if you can go. Please quote the list, and add your name to it, if you can come on May 16. Also, you three who are on the list, if you want to bring a guest, please add a +1 next to your name. Thank you

I can make the 16th. and I think June 7th works for me... for the life of me I can't remember when my cousin's wedding is. Silly me.

I've been trying to think of places with outside seating areas, but it's been a couple years now since I lived in the Cities. Annies Parlour can be a very mellow place to hang out near the U of MN campus, but parking can be pretty tight, especially on a Friday.

I'm sure there are also plenty of places downtown. There's that new thing next to the Target Center. I think the Hard Rock Cafe has outside seating. But I'm afraid that's all I have to suggest.

So, I was sitting here in my PJs trying to remember what's in the Twin Cities when I suddenly remembered the CityPages! *beam* So I pulled it up online and the first hit I got was this:

Sure it's a beer garden, but who can sneer at a lovely brushed-steel sculpture and waterfall in the shelter of twining grapevines? If you've been married (or divorced) long enough to remember your very first date here, rest assured, not much has changed: It's the same creamy pilsner, the same homemade bratwurst (owner Erich Christ's childhood recipe), the same caraway-studded kraut and snappy braised red cabbage, and the same summer evenings fading to indigo night. Oh, I just remembered another fabulous place. Sgt. Preston's near the U of MN campus, West Bank. There's even a parking ramp next door (which is also next to... um... shoot, what's it called. Grandma's?) But Sgt. Preston's has fabulous appetizers and a great patio area. Like Annie's Parlour, though, being near campus would make it a hot spot on a Friday night. But it's a thought.

Oh, and while I'm still spamming y'all, there's always the Mall of America, too. *grins* Okay, there isn't any outdoor patio, but it's easy to find, there's tons of free parking, and quite a few places up on the top floor to choose from. I'm sure we could get a nice big table in some corner at one of them and chat to our hearts' content. Just a thought.

Great ideas, I've never been but it sounds interesting... MOA may also be a good choice, as there is ample parking, choices and I think most people can find that one... excellent input!

Black Forest Inn

The Black Forest Inn sounds kind of cool and i think it is a great location. Not really in downtown around all of the hennepin, first avenue bars and restaurants so it should be a little less crowded on a Friday than say a Hard Rock or Rock Bottom brewery.

Everyone that is planning on the 16th should go check out Citysearch.com and look up the Black Forest Inn and post their feedback. I'm not sure where everyone is coming from, but I think this could be a good location for this first meeting. People can eat if they want or not, and can drink if they want or not. Looks like on the map that I-35W runs within two or three blocks of this location so probably easy access. Everyone check it out and say what you think.

Remember that if you can't make the 16th, there is another date being planned for June 7th (saturday) and there is not a location set for that one yet. Post your ideas or suggestions.
