Minor erotica annoyance

My ex-sister-in-law is a NY Times BS List F&SF author whom I dearly love -- but she's a longtime member of SCA (Society for Creative Anachronisms), a real Pleasure Faire costume freak, and she often goes on for PAGES with abstruse, detailed clothing descriptions, whether in medieval-based fantasy worlds or 1800 New Orleans. Too much sometimes...

Officially curious who this is. Hmmmm, must narrow this down.

Some time ago, we were challenged in this thread to write a story about plain ordinary people. I have started. No stupendous gushing orgasms, no pussy as tight as a square knot, no 12" dicks, just two less than ordinary people who wind up caring about each other and fucking their brains out.
It isn't easy.
Check out my "Cycling Weekends with Sis". She's 5'1" and he's 5'6".
We kissed for a while. Being with Julie was like some wonderful, crazy dream and I was enjoying that it had come true. I broke the kiss off with a smile, pulled away from her and started pumping in and out of her. I was raised up on my arms, looking at her beautiful face and body.

I have only a five-inch dick, but the way Julie moaned and cooed, I felt like I had a full nine inches.
She guided my dick into her pussy and let herself down until I was fully impaled inside her.

"I have always loved you, Julie. I loved you in high school and I love you now."

She smiled. "You feel so right inside of me." With her hands on my chest, Julie slowly unfolded her legs to raise herself straight off of me and then folded them again to sink slowly back down. I groaned as my dick slid into and out of her tight pussy.

"Josh, you are the right size for me to do this."

Reality Sucks

Okay, I just have to say this. Reality sucks. If I wanted reality I'd talk to my wife instead of writing porn :D

When I read I want larger than life characters doing things I only dream of doing. It is why we have comic books, fantasy, the walking dead, and all of the other crap on TV and in the Movies. No one wants to read about a 40 something old maid with 20 cats and no libido or a sniveling coward who shrinks from women because he doesn't have the confidence to even say "Hi." or a frigid wife who couldn't pry her legs apart with the jaws of life.

It is possible to write erotic fiction about ordinary, everyday people provided the situation is interesting. A story about a married couple in their 30s who come home from work, have dinner, watch TV, have sex for 5 minutes in the missionary position, then go to sleep - not interesting.

However, put the same married couple at a housewarming party for rich pretentious friends/relatives, which is more a "see how much more money we have than you party", and they have sex in the study or on a pool table, then you potentially have a good story. Or the husband could mention to the wife that he has a fetish for 1950s clothes, and she surprises him by dressing up in a blouse, poodle-skirt and bobby socks. Another interesting idea for a story.

Can't she have a spangled skirt?

I find this attitude surprisingly common among authors here. I don't buy it. I guess it depends on your reality.

I expressly reject the suggestion that only superhumans have hot exciting sex. That's not my reality, and it doesn't reflect the reality of many people I know. If you believe that only slim, beautiful young women with humongous breasts and tall men with monster sized cocks have good sex, well, then I would say that you have limited imagination and don't get out very much.

Many people consider fantasies unattainable fodder for the spank bank. Others consider them goals that they strive to achieve over a lifetime. Some people only dream about their fantasies, while others live them.

I truly think you're off base on the majority of readers who come to Literotica to read--although I also think that's sort of irrelevant. It's a humongous site, open to a wide range of interests, and I think readers with their personal interest in what they want to read/write should take responsibility for finding what they want to read/write here upon themselves and leave everyone else the hell alone without pejorative criticism of the interests of others based on what they like to read/write (such as we get on threads like this).

My observation from posting a couple of stories a week is that the vast majority of Lit. readers are here to read exactly as GoldenCojones has depicted. Let me repeat that. My observation from posting a couple of stories a week to Lit. is that the vast majority of Lit. readers are here to read exactly as GoldenCojones has depicted.

That gives me the option of writing and posting what I want--and writing and posting a wide variety of approaches, styles, and themes.

I believe that you and others on this thread are stuck in trying to make your preferences universal and the norm. They aren't. There's plenty of room here for everyone to get their druthers if you'd just stick to your own knitting and leave others the hell alone.

I'm currently running a series of Incest category stories that attempt to put a story behind what leads the characters into this situation. Typically when I posted one of a young woman with self-esteem issues (which I see as a major reason she'd drift into becoming obsessed with her brother) I get comments that it can't be a good incest story for her because she's damaged. (Well, duh, it's a practice built for damaged people.) Most of the readers there obviously are after just the prurient details, not any study of the issue.

I'm not criticizing anyone's reading or writing preferences. My issue was with the statement "Reality sucks," leading to the notion that the only people with fantastic physical attributes have good sex. My position is that anyone can be sexy and everyone can have good sex. I'll say that again so that it's clear. Everyone can have good sex.

Literotica is a big tent. It has room for normal people and enormous dicks. If you don't like what's offered, you aren't looking hard enough. If you want to write for the masses, that's fine. If you are writing for a different audience, that's OK too. Lit. would be a pretty boring place if every story catered to the same reader.

I never said that only superhumans have hot exciting sex. The people in my stories are not hollywood stereotype beauties, men or women, but they are not doing normal everyday stuff. That is the point I was trying to make. Reality is sitting on your ass five hours a night watching reruns of made up extraordinary people doing made up extraordinary things. Why do we do this if all we want in stories is reality?

I don't want stories to only have slim beautiful young women with humongous breasts or tall men with monster sized cocks. I never said I did. But show me five New York Times bestsellers where all of the characters are fat ugly slobs that never get off the couch and I'll show you twenty where the characters are larger than life doing things very few, if any, real people have ever done.

I write stories about people I would love to meet. It is my way of getting to know these people at least for a while. If that makes you so vastly superior to me then so be it.

I think it is snobbish at best to turn your nose up at people who write "unrealistic" stories. And by the way, I don't buy that you have hot wild orgies every night either.

Actually you WERE criticizing people's (mine) reading or writing preferences by saying they had little imagination and don't get out much. I don't know in which world "Reality sucks" leads to "only people with fantastic physical attributes have good sex" but not in mine. That is bullshit and I never said that.

And coming back and saying it's okay to write for a different audience after saying I have "limited imagination" and that I "don't get out very much" is just plain hypocritical. Which is it? Is it okay or is it only for small minded idiots? Or are you saying it's only okay for small minded idiots who never get out?

I wasn't attacking anyone personally but you came in and thought you would belittle and humiliate me for having the temerity to disagree with your "right" viewpoint. That makes you nothing but a bully and a snob.

The one that's getting pretty old for me is actually the "so big around that her fingers couldn't touch when she held it" cock description that's then followed by a scene as if it were just a normally thick cock.

10inches is something I can easily think of as "uh...10 inches" but the aforementioned description is something I'm running into a lot, and it really kicks me out of the atmosphere.

Not only that, but it's usually followed by oral with deep throating. Personally, I can't get my jaw open enough to have that much space between my teeth, so unless the guy is one hell of a masochist, it's not getting in my mouth at all!

When a cock's described like that, it's being put into a size category that makes fisting easier than taking it inside! If dealing with that size is the story you want to write, go ahead (hell, I may read it, even) but it's a whole different thing than having a pleasantly thick cock, and it's probably going to fall into the fetish category on that alone.

Surely, it's not the actual dimensions but what the owner does with 'em.
To my mind, it's descriptions of the action and reactions by the parties concerned.
If she's got a generous handful, or he's possessed of a superior length, so be it; but it's what he does with that length or how sensitive her handful is, or the effect upon him that counts.

See, I never 'get' that expression. I have relatively short fingers, so I can't touch fingers* around any normal cock, never mind a thick one.

A long, skinny bicycle pump (like the one I posted) isn't exactly attractive to me.

*I've always assumed this actually means touching a thumb to a finger in an 'OK' signal? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally, I can't get my jaw open enough to have that much space between my teeth, so unless the guy is one hell of a masochist, it's not getting in my mouth at all!

Me neither. So glad I'm not the only one. If the dentist has problems...

Well, in fact, it is. Erotica is about emotions, images, and anticipation. It starts out in the mind (and obviously continues to be dominated in the mind or we'd all be rolling over on the floor in "hey what?" stitches just left with the ridiculousness of the actual physical sex acts). The switches are turned on by these. For many, imagining the dimensions trigger the arousal. You'd better be aroused already when you get into the "what the owner does with 'em" phase.

The thing that annoys me the most is pretty simple. Grammar! And spelling. It's so distracting when reading a story. Even a really hot one. Spellcheck people. Spellcheck!

I couldn't agree more.

Whatever the author's purpose in writing her particular story is, well written ones have a broader appeal even if they're outside the reader's specific preferences. I accept that there are times when measurement descriptors have a place in the narrative, but most of the time they indicate poor word craft.

I flatter myself to think that I have anything more than marginal skill right now. With each new story I try to get better though. But, not every writer is trying to do that because that is not her goal. Sometimes she just wants to indulge her inner compulsion. That's Ok.

As readers we have always had to weed through the chaff to find the kernels.

A good story is a good story; a bad one is a bad one, skip it and move on.

Uh, oh, I've actually used something very similar to that one, but when I did, it was for a very petite lady and I was actually trying to show how small her hands were. I haven't posted that story yet. I think I'll see if I can't show her hands being small another way. :D
