Minnesota Gov. Walz to Ban Gay Conversion Therapy

Walz is expected to sign the order Thursday morning despite opposition from the Republican-held state senate.

If a person is gay, they're gay. That's that. You may not want your child/children to be gay - I don't/wouldn't - but that's out of a parent's control. Forcing them to be 'straight' isn't going to help them.

So, I have no problem with this - though how it stands up in court is another matter - and it's probably for the best for forced conversion therapy to go away. I would suggest, instead of 'conversion therapy,' to just go to therapy, but not to dissuade anyone, or yourself, from being gay, but to help them understand who they are and why they feel the way they do. At the very least, the therapy should be to help them feel comfortable with who they are despite the fact that they will face unfair judgement from certain kinds of people.

I do draw the line on somethings:
  • The Trans Issue: Don't tell me you're a Man/Woman if you're really a Woman/Man. If you want to live as the opposite of your sex/gender, something that doesn't change just because you decided to create a thousand sub-categories of each, do so, but I won't take part in someone's BS fantasy land. I'll even refer to someone by their 'chosen pronoun' unless they actually believe they are the opposite gender/sex of what they really are. I won't indulge that kind of mental instability.
  • Overly Sexual Pride Parades: There's no shame in taking pride in what you do, but I don't need to see you helicoptering your wang in the middle of the street, or walking a guy who's on a leash who's also wearing a dog mask while barking at people and sniffing asses.
  • Hormone therapy for anyone under the age of 18
  • Others, but where I draw the line isn't the topic of discussion.

Penn. gov. bans conversion therapy 👏 👏

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf signed an executive order Tuesday to ban conversion therapy, a discredited form of therapy that seeks to change someone's sexual orientation or gender identity, for minors.

The executive order directs state agencies to discourage conversion therapy for people of all ages, and to instead promote evidence-based practices for supporting LGBTQ people. The order also directs the Department of Human Services, among other agencies, to ensure that state funds are not being used to provide or reimburse for conversion therapy
“Conversion therapy is a traumatic practice based on junk science that actively harms the people it supposedly seeks to treat,” Wolf, a Democrat, said in a statement. “This discriminatory practice is widely rejected by medical and scientific professionals and has been proven to lead to worse mental health outcomes for LGBTQIA+ youth subjected to it. This is about keeping our children safe from bullying and extreme practices that harm them.”

The executive order makes Pennsylvania the 26th state to at least partially bar the practice for minors, according to the Movement Advancement Project, an LGBTQ think tank. Twenty other states and Washington, D.C., completely ban the practice, while five states partially ban conversion therapy for minors. A federal court has barred three states — Alabama, Georgia and Florida — from enforcing conversion therapy bans. The remaining 21 states have no law or policy on conversion therapy.

A U.S. federal appeals court on Tuesday unanimously upheld Washington state's ban on conversion therapy for children, rejecting a therapist's claim that it undermined his free speech and targeted him because he is Christian.

his 'free speech' and christianity... fuck. off. his free speech and religious delusions doesn't mean he can torture children into accepting living their lives under a lie.
