How did we get all the way to to 1938 without it? Truth is people can quit their jobs and put themselves up for sale to other more benevolent business owners if wronged by another, but I respect your opinion and your right to state it. The alleged "minimum Wage" has now morphed into proposals for a "living wage' which is simply more communist control over our once great private economy. As we speak there is very little private control over any aspect of the "private" sector economy, every business decision must conform to state dicta. Government interventionist policy now controls all of the means of production.

The economic penalty for mistreating an employee is to allow your competition to purchase the acquired skills of that employee for wages only without having to invest time and money in initial training. There are lots of dumb employers out there that need to be punished, it's how we weed out those who shouldn't be in business in the first place.

At any rate, the federal government has no business setting a national Minimum Wage, leave that to the states who are much more aware of local economic conditions than vote buying politicians thousands of miles away. Living conditions, standards of living, and economics are different from one region of the country to another. $15 hr might be fine in Aspen, Colorado and a total disaster in Rifle, Colorado.
