His assistant modeled for it. He was having a relationship with her. She must have starved all of the oxygen from his brain when he saw her laying their nude.

I love this and his blue period inspired a painting of my own from years back during my own 'blue' period. It's not a sensual piece though. Thank you for sharing this here!
