There is no such thing as an honest politician. There are simply to many people out there with opposing interests. For example, pro-life vs pro-choice the actual numbers aren't counted correctly, but the nation is about half and half. In order to get a majority someone has to be lied to. Minority concerns vs. majority concerns. The minority concern will either be ignored or swept under the carpet. An election is a popularity contest that is supposedly based upon issues. No issue or set of issues will garner a majority vote without a lie involved.
Color me cynical, but even Libertarians aren't honest. This makes me sad that if we did have an honest man run, he would never get elected. No one would believe him anyway.
As far as military personnel all over the world, yes, they'll still be there being killed for some stupid political future, even if the Libertarians controlled things. Why? We are not an isolationist country. There are other countries out there who request our military aid, such as Kuwait, Somalia, Haiti, etc. There are our allies who request our military aid, such as France (Vietnam) and England (Balkans). We've never kept out of such events and we never will. Part of being a great country is helping those we've pledged to help.
Maybe we can get Nicaragua to come up and safeguard our elections next time.

Most of the issues upon which the elections or popularity contests are debated and run are those concerning "who is going to give me the biggest handout" or "who is going to take my side and help pass laws that will impose my will on those who disagree with me".
A perception we share which is why I never refer to Libertarian candidates as politicians. As to the opposing interests, most of these are areas which are beyond the province of a legitimate government. The United States was founded on the principle of individual rights and freedom. There is no smaller minority than the individual and that is the one minority that is ignored and maltreated most egregiously by our governments at all levels.

Did you ever listen to Harry Browne? I think it was less that no one believed him, rather that his ideas scared many people because he takes the position that your life is your responsibility as is raising your kids and deciding what TV shows they see, which movies they attend, where they surf on the net, etc. It's not up to a nanny state to do it for you or force you into doing it by legislated morality.
Again, listen to the Libertarian candidate. On a Fox News interview, one statement he made in response to a lead-in remark about Clinton's gutting the military to the point where we could not today mount Operation Desert Storm was to the effect that this was the only good thing to result from the Clinton debacle in Washington if there was one. When questioned directly if he would have had the U. S. participated Desert Storm, his answer was effectively, "No. You have one dictator invading another. The United States is not the world's policeman." Basically, Libertarians would use our military to protect the lives and property of American citizens. The risk of terrorist attacks on Americans at home or abroad would be lessened because:
- America would not be intervening in the affairs of other nations so long as they did not threaten or attack America.
- Any attack on America would result in swift and decisive retaliation.
They're certainly more honest and trustworthy than Clinton, Algore or Lieberman(sp?).

It seems to me, that these overseas military personel, who put their lives at stake for us, fight for our freedoms, should have their votes counted. If it weren't for the many men and women who daily put their lifes on the line for us, would we still have the freedoms we so much enjoy? I think these politicians need to go back and reconsider what all of these people do for us every day.

The federal government is regulating our small family ponds by decree out here in flyover country. For god's and buddha's sake what would happen if we threw out the electoral college and were completely at the hands of urban conservationalists who have never grown anything more complex than a chia pet! He is rumored to have fathered at least one and perhaps more children with his lady friends. He is rumored to have dealt drugs in his younger days, including his years at Yale.
He was AWOL from the military for at least a year that we know of. He was the scoundrel son of a criminal -- George Herbert Walker Bush -- and the grandson of a man who arranged for the financing of Adolf Hitler with his buddies at Harriman Bank in the late 30s and up until the United States entered the war -- Prescott Bush.
George W. Bush is no ordinary American -- not by a long shot -- and neither was his father no matter how many times you look at those phony home movies of the Bush's living in almost squalid conditions in Texas oil country. He is part of the ruling class of America -- and like the Royal Family in Britain, the American ruling class, especially the Bushes, were playing footsies with Hitler long before they were backing Churchill or FDR to protect themselves from their buddy Adolf's avarice and penchant for killing Jews, Catholics, gypsies, gays, and whomever else he hated that particular day.
The ruling class in America -- as in England -- is largely stupid, undereducated and dogmatic. They go to the best schools but often commit suicide or flunk out with a smile and still graduate. George W. was the second type.
He is a loser. His brother Neil -- the one you never see -- was a corporate criminal. His other brother -- Governor Jeb -- was a likeable yokel who had a yen for spicy women and embarrassing his family, which he did quite often. When his father -- through serendipity and certainly not honor -- became a one-term president, leaving in total disgrace and dishonor for his role in covering up a scheme where his prior Administration had traded arms and drugs, supposedly to release hostages held in Iran ( but really to take control of Central America), W. was the last hope of the dying Bush line of snake oil salesman.
So Daddy quickly bought him a baseball team -- arranged for his criminal record to be expunged -- arranged to steal a couple of hundred million from the taxpayers to build W. a new stadium on the backs of hard working men and women taxpayers and then cash out with a neat $17 million profit -- all in matter of few years.
Then they dried George out -- but it wasn't like W. tells it. It was done over a period of time -- at great expense -- and in the luxury of hospital centers reserved for the rich only.

While this was going on, Newt Gingrich arrived on the scene along with men like Dick Armey and the diminutive Tom “Thumb” DeLay, both of Texas. It was Armey and DeLay's job to make a place for George W. on the world stage. It would be DeLay who would run the storm trooper operation in Miami, Palm Beach and Broward counties in November of 2000 that would scare the heck out of Democrats living and voting in the region.
But I am getting ahead of myself.
In December of 1992, Newt and the boys met with the Republican leadership. Smarting from their loss of the White House to a young whippersnapper -- Bill Clinton -- it was decided that Gingrich would be allowed to try and sell his hardball "Contract with America" while Armey and DeLay concentrated in dumbing down America, bringing in virtues Führer William Bennett -- the ex-do-nothing drug czar under Bush senior -- and few other scalawags and felons to basically engage in a public relations and advertising war that would change the American electorate from a moderate God-fearing group who loved the 60s, hippies and had compassion gays with AIDS into a mob of pre-World-War-II Germans who hated the 60s, loved Vietnam vets, hated gays, hated blacks, and went to political war against all minorities who tried to “steal their college educations, their jobs and even their wives.”
The leaders of televangelism, also eager for more booty, were enlisted to begin attacking the moral foundation of the society -- claiming that the United States, by far the most giving and self-effacing nation in the world, was a Sodom and would be destroyed by Democrats like Bill Clinton and the House and Senate leadership.
America at first did not buy this gibberish. So another plea went out from the Gingrich Group, this time to the dozen or so men, and one woman, who controlled vast -- and now vaster -- media empires. They were told that the nation was poised for an internal breakdown. They were shown "polls" -- they were told that a vast war between the haves and have-nots could be coming at any moment, and democrats, dumb as some were at the time, fell into that trap and they too began to talk about class warfare of the American type, which is hardly ever bloody -- and if it is, the blood always comes from the right.. always.
This public relations campaign began to work only when the GOP began to openly attack Hillary and Bill Clinton -- the President and First Lady of the United States -- on a very personal basis. This had never happened before. Even Richard Nixon was never excoriated for his unusual personal habits or his friendships with people of the underworld. J. Edgar Hoover was never attacked as a drag queen surrounding himself with his lover and other lovers while spying on people that did not deign to worship him.
This was something new, and Americans were beginning to enjoy it by 1993. The President was a "criminal," he "stole money," his wife was a "bitchy, power-mongering shyster lawyer who broke the law," and his cabinet was filled with "criminals."
These rumors then began to take on a pseudo-reality of their own -- and became a Goebbels-esque Big Lie. By 1994, Gingrich had turned the Southern Democrats into skinhead Nazis and captured control of the House of Representatives. And an idiot racist from Mississippi -- a state where the majority of blacks cannot read -- was elected the Senate Majority Leader: Trent Lott.

These were the people that NBC relied on to watch -- in ever-increasing numbers -- shows like Chris Matthews' HARDBALL which made its reputation attacking Clinton, and Meet the Press, once a moderately liberal educational political discussion program now turned into the National Inquirer by GOP operative Tim Russert, who was only eclipsed in dishonesty by the increasingly irrational Sam Donaldson and his schoolmarm partner Cokie Roberts, whose parents had been way-too-successful Louisiana politicians on the Democrat side.
A new breed of hosts sprung from that turf. A little known columnist and former Bush speechwriter, Tony Snow, was suddenly host of a one hour Sunday morning show run entirely by the hideously incompetent Brit Hume, longtime puppet of the ultra right and ingenious Roger Ailes, the head of programming for the CEO of FOX, an Aussie named Rupert Murdoch who, it seems, might be far more comfortable in Third Reich Germany.
Teams of "briefers" -- blustering frauds like William Bennett, who began churning out books on America's moral decrepitude, and idiots like non-high-school educated Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly each seized a larger and larger group of American nut cases. They believed what these hard right wingers told them, believed that the Clintons were evil spawn of Satan and believed that a Holy War was just around the corner.
Meanwhile, Pat Robertson and his sidekicks were waging a real Jihad for Christ on the 700 Club and other ludicrous televangelist programs designed to frighten people with IQs under 100 and incomes below the poverty line. They too bashed the Clintons and the Democrats.
All the while the Democrats just sat there -- as they do now, still believing that they owned the media.
But they didn't -- they were not even close. Only CNN is left, almost hopeless in a world now dominated by GOP NewSpeak where every electronic journalist is terrified to utter even the smallest liberal viewpoint.
Make no mistake: no matter how loud the cries of foul become, the media has dirtied its hands with the dumbing-down of American voters and the public at large.

CNN was and remains the fairest network covering national and international politics.

FOX, of course, has coverage akin to the National Enquirer or The New York Post. It is gutter journalism on the cable news outlet cleverly mixed with a more gentle, nearly professional show on their flagship network Sunday mornings, hosted by the wisecracking, very smart Tony Snow -- but with the shots called by Brit Hume. Witness the scandal around Hume's son Sandy, greatly beloved by his peers, who is rumored to have had an affair with quickly-thereafter-departing Congressman Bill Paxon -- married (in convenience, perhaps?) to once-powerful Congresswoman Susan Molinari, who was also chased out of the Beltway by Gingrich and tried to make a career with CBS as yet another muckraker.
Sandy Hume, allegedly depressed over his breakup with Paxon or someone, blew his head off with a shotgun. Not a word was heard, and none printed, by the mainstream or even no-so-mainstream media other than a brief and discrete obituary for a young and conspicuously talented political reporter who looked poised to outshine his dad by a significant margin.
But what is evening more alarming is that the media also did not cover, or refused to cover, Republican shenanigans of the time -- including the fact that Haley Barbour, then the GOP Chairman was caught laundering money through Hong Kong businessman Ambrous Tung Young, and worse. Barbour was also caught laundering soft money into hard through other bogus campaign operations including those masterminded by two other right-wing radicals, Joe Gaylord and Grover Norquist, both of whom have disappeared from the media radar.
The timing could not have been better. What the new Neofascist Republicans had accomplished was the near total destruction of the Democratic Party among the less educated in America, who bought this garbage hook, line and sinker. It had also managed to sink its claws into Gore over his trip to a Buddhist temple in Los Angeles accompanied by local Republicans (yes, Republicans) around the time that several checks from nuns -- laundered by a foreign Asian without the Vice President's knowledge -- were cashed by the DNC before they had realized what had happened.
Although all that money, and all Asian money tainted in any way, was returned to the so-called donors, the Buddhist temple matter (which the GOP through their press surrogates characterized as a "fundraiser," which it was NOT) was played over and over again by not only the lowest on the pundit ladder like Hannity and O'Reilly, but on the "top" by Russert and Donaldson.
During the Lewinsky matter, the national news magazine Newsweek -- owned almost entirely by the Washington Post, which was by now an avowed Clinton hating machine -- found an ally in Howard Fineman, who quickly became a "talking head" personality eager to crush Clinton and make himself a load of money in the doing. He brought in sniveling and often prevaricating journalist Michael Isikoff to do a hatchet job on Clinton using Linda Tripp's tapes and Kenneth Starr's illegal leaking. The pseudojournalist Matt Drudge, now in the dust bin of history, was stupid enough to be used by Newsweek and the Post (even as they were vilifying him and laughing at him behind his back) as the venue to spread lies about Lewinsky, Tripp, and the rest of the crew recruited to politically murder Clinton.
Fineman, a man who strikes one as an idiot in a private conversation, used his position at Newsweek -- the nation's most ridiculous weekly news magazine -- to bring his own brand of “sunlight” to the Clinton-Lewinsky story. He hated Clinton, just barley cloaking his feelings on the air and made no bones about it off the air.
William Safire joined the fray early on, and wrote no less than 100 columns filled with lies, half-truths, and untraceable reports from “inside sources” and the like over the two years that marked the beginning and the end of the impeachment scam. Safire, a friend of Nixon's and a hired gun for that President, is also a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and author who has now disgraced himself to such a point that the Pulitzer Board has been asked to remove him from its midst.
David Broder of the New York Times did the same -- although with a bit more embarrassment than most. Even the acid-tongued Hitler-defender Christopher Hitchens -- an unwanted Brit in his own home country -- joined in attacking his “best friend,” White House advisor Sid Blumenthal, for alleging “lying” to Hitchens at a bar.
Everyone piled on -- while Rather, Brokaw and Jennings stayed silent and rode their multi-million dollar salaries as long as they could. They only rescued their networks when it became apparent that Bill Clinton had outfoxed them all -- since Clinton had the truth on his side -- and walked away triumphant from the band of criminal sharks that had arranged this humiliation for him.

At the same time, Republicans circled the wagons and registered more and more converts even as Reagan was selling out the Constitution with the help of Former CIA Director George Herbert Bush, selling drugs and trading arms with the Contras in what was supposedly an effort to free American hostages held in Iran -- but in fact was a plot to "free" Central America from the burden of open and air elections and a growing move toward democracy.
The battle had begun.
Reagan, a moderate socialist at heart, had been recruited by the worst of the worst small corporate scum in California starting in 1964. He was made Governor by nothing more than a very rich car dealer and a drug store octogenarian. With Nancy chiding him at every moment for more money and power, Ronnie Reagan began to sell his soul to these devils.
He was cooperative, and he was re-elected Governor of California, making him a prime candidate for President. He tried twice, and then defeated George Bush in the East -- primarily due to the genius of a not-too-often-mentioned ad man from Philadelphia named Elliott Curson, who pulled the Reagan group from the abyss in late 1979 and produced a series of Reagan ads that crushed his opposition and delivered him the presidency on a silver platter in November of 1980.
Bush -- who became a terrible influence on America -- was also established then, as the vice president.
We all know what he left the country with: unbelievable debt, a failed economic plan, a lost battle called Desert Storm designed merely to push up oil prices for his friends and create two non-super-heroes, General Colin Powell and General Norm Schwarzkopf -- who fell out of favor with Bush and his kind after he refused to attack Clinton.
Powell, who has played the humiliating role of "house boy" to the Republican Party for years, was counted on as the Great Black Hope to hoodwink America into thinking the Republican Party had a new “inclusive” face.

Only corporate America stood by the GOP -- knowing that they could now DICTATE exactly what their policies would be. And who better to lead the New, New GOP than George W. Bush, a petty criminal halfwit who already sold himself to business long ago in Texas and would be a ready ally to do so with the nation?
The decisions were made, not in some scheme, but in the normal manner. The key players -- lobbyists -- were floated the notion of a Bush Baby presidency. They bought into it knowing what it would mean for their bottom line.
In doing so, corporate America began funding Bush “Early and often,” giving unheard-of sums to his candidacy and the RNC and its other committees.
Karl Rove and Karen Hughes, with some input from Ari Fleischer, began to run Bush for President. First, they had to get rid of John McCain -- and after Bush's stunning defeat in New Hampshire, the three easily convinced Bush to play the race card and to trounce McCain in the Carolinas. Bush did just that, speaking as a keynoter at the most racist “college” in the Western Hemisphere, Bob Jones University, which has an open policy of No Interracial Dating (or anything else interracial for that matter).
It worked -- and McCain soon came to a grinding halt although some big corporate influence felt he would be a stronger candidate against Gore in 2000.

The drumbeat in the media went on. One could not imagine, in all candor, that any journalist would have treated this drunken spoiled brat as anything other than a joke in the 1970s. But after Ronald Reagan surprised everyone with his double wins in 1980 and 1984, the press was fearful to attack young Bush for anything whatsoever and thus they continued their former soap opera -- this time using Gore, rather than Clinton as the foil.
Clinton and Gore were constantly, decidedly and purposely mentioned as one as often as possible and in negative tones by all the media, save the network news.
Tim Russert, who draws the lion's share of political hacks to watch his circus every Sunday (a program almost totally sponsored by Bob Dole's ADM and General Electric, which holds a high stake in the expansion and honing of the military) insulted either Bill Clinton or Al Gore directly and personally more than 1,600 times during the period 1997 through June of 2000. That is tough to do on fewer than 150 shows. He continued against Gore -- while pumping up Bush all through 2000 -- although he seemed to move toward McCain for a few weeks when it appeared that Bush might be finished after New Hampshire.
The same was true on This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Boggs Roberts. They had a team made up of Clinton bashers George Will, the least accurate pundit forecaster on television, and George Stephanopoulos, still trading on his ouster from the White House for the treacherous role he played during the banking and Filegate eras.
Tony Snow and the Ailes-Hume team kept up a steady drumbeat against Gore, of course, and so too did all the big mouths on CNBC and MSNBC.
Not a single left-wing commentator had his own show on any national network or cable outlet, and the weakest were featured on the point-counterpoint shows like Crossfire, the program that hatched the Neonazi Pat Buchanan and now revels in the likes of GOP intellectual prostitute Mary Matalin and the snide Robert Novak who arrived at this position merely through time and age. At CNN, Novak is jokingly referred to as “NOVAKULA,” a term I coined back in 1998.
So Bush had most of the media, every nut in the nation, every gun-toter and every corporate CEO in the nation lined up behind him. There was no way he could lose the nomination of his party -- and GOP insiders were dancing the conga at the thought of his occupation of the White House.

Independents were leaning toward Gore and Democrats in droves.

His team, made up of a lot of retreads from the labor days and whose oppo research group was led by the used-up Donna Brazile -- who couldn't even find out whether Bush was indeed convicted of cocaine possession in Texas and then let free by a Daddy-fixed judge, let alone that Bush was busted for drunk driving, and not just in Kennebunkport.
Brazile did a terrible job on what should have been an easy disqualification for Bush as president of anything but a B-school fraternity. He was ripe for the picking -- but the media would not cooperate, and even refused to report true stories about Bush's wild drunkenness as late as the 1990s in Texas and elsewhere.
The media did not investigative Bush except at the fringes -- and no one picked up on any of skeletons Bush and his family had in their closet, even left-leaning equivalents of Matt Drudge.
Gore was hung out to dry -- and so forced to communicate Bush's obvious unpreparedness for anything, much less the White House. When the Gore campaign did try, they were roasted by the media as being "dirty fighters." When Bush did the same, his commercials were highlighted, often run in their entirety on news programs, and called “the truth” by his spinners -- and NOT dirty advertising in the same manner that Gore's criticism was being demeaned.
Yet, throughout all this, Gore still maintained his lead, and does so today, as of this writing. Gore has won the national popular ballot count by more than 300,000 votes -- and the Electoral College less Florida.
He has won the Florida vote as well.
Which brings us back to Palm Beach.
Palm Beach County is and was at the center of the firestorm in Florida.
First, a little more history: Florida is one of the most corrupt states in the nation when it comes to election politics and government. As a matter of fact, the state has been so corrupt throughout history that it was forced to pass sweeping "sunshine laws" which allow the people to see nearly everything that goes on in state and local government and to have access to all documents -- or more than are usual under other state laws.
However, there is still plenty of leeway for larceny in Florida election laws.
For instance, when I voted here, at home in GOP country, I was met at the entrance to my polling place by a GOP operative urging me to cast my vote for Republican candidates -- AND an operative from the Christian Coalition who handed me a copy of their “voting guide” which purported to tell me who "toed the Jesus line" and who did not.
This is illegal. It was done anyway.
George W. always knew he needed Florida to win this election. Even with a sea of green in the Midwest and the South, these not very populated states could not deliver him the votes he needed from the Electoral College. Early on, Brother Jeb, along with his entire family including his beautiful Hispanic wife and sons, and Secretary of State Katherine Harris (reputed to be Jeb's lover) were encouraged to play large roles in the Bush campaign. Both Jeb and Harris, a millionairess who is just about to be kicked out of her job (her post had been eliminated by the State Legislature as an elected one) have reportedly been promised a high level post in the new National Bush Administration.
As the polls warned Bush he would not win at all, he made last ditch efforts to tempt the dumbest redneck voters in Tennessee to deny Gore the 11 electoral votes that would have given him the presidency. Bush used the filthiest tactics in Tennessee -- and was successful in stealing the state from Gore because people still saw Gore as the Senator from Tennessee who had ignored them and was against their industries, especially coal mining. Of course, this was a lie -- and Al Gore has often backed clean-burning coal power generation.

For instance, when I voted here, at home in GOP country, I was met at the entrance to my polling place by a GOP operative urging me to cast my vote for Republican candidates -- AND an operative from the Christian Coalition who handed me a copy of their “voting guide” which purported to tell me who "toed the Jesus line" and who did not.
This is illegal. It was done anyway.
George W. always knew he needed Florida to win this election. Even with a sea of green in the Midwest and the South, these not very populated states could not deliver him the votes he needed from the Electoral College. Early on, Brother Jeb, along with his entire family including his beautiful Hispanic wife and sons, and Secretary of State Katherine Harris (reputed to be Jeb's lover) were encouraged to play large roles in the Bush campaign. Both Jeb and Harris, a millionairess who is just about to be kicked out of her job (her post had been eliminated by the State Legislature as an elected one) have reportedly been promised a high level post in the new National Bush Administration.
As the polls warned Bush he would not win at all, he made last ditch efforts to tempt the dumbest redneck voters in Tennessee to deny Gore the 11 electoral votes that would have given him the presidency. Bush used the filthiest tactics in Tennessee -- and was successful in stealing the state from Gore because people still saw Gore as the Senator from Tennessee who had ignored them and was against their industries, especially coal mining. Of course, this was a lie -- and Al Gore has often backed clean-burning coal power generation.
Gore was surprised and knocked off his feet. When he did go back into the state it was too late. Bush had lied and it had worked.

So now, Florida became the key -- and remember, the Bush team knew all along that it would be, and they knew that unless they acted fast, Gore would beat them by at least 2 percent in Florida.
The Gore team realized -- late on -- that they were closer to Bush than they thought and had a great chance of trouncing him. Thus both men spent their last days of the campaign humping up and down the state trying to cement their bases and move the independents into their column.
The evil began to fly. Bush did this by lying and claiming the GOP was for preserving Social Security and getting aging seniors prescription drugs. They claimed Gore was going to CHARGE them for drugs -- another lie! Bush, in fact, was going to allow his friends the HMO lobby and PHRMa to rape seniors for high premium prices and continued high drug prices. Gore, instead, was going to form a national insurance policy as part of Medicare, which would cost the average senior some money each month -- but only if they could afford it, and never more than $50 a month even if their prescriptions cost $15,000 a year!
This is where the famous $600 a year figure that Bush kept talking up came from.
The Gore team again seemed almost in a coma when it came to matching the Bush PR and advertising people. This is the fault of Bob Shrum, the top campaign consultant in the Gore camp who was supposed to take care of this, and former Chicago Mayor Bill Daley, who did not understand large national commercial political undertakings (or so it now seems) and whose persona on national television over the past few weeks is shameful to say the least. Where Donna Brazile was is yet to be learned.
Everyone knew the race was close -- and Bush needed Florida to win. Bush operatives went into the state early and stayed. They knew that Jeb Bush's coattails were not long enough to carry his big brother to victory: for one, his wife had recently been caught smuggling jewels and furs into the country from a shopping trip in Europe, and on October 7th the youngest of the Bush boys had been booked for lewd conduct after being found in a Tallahassee shopping mall parking lot having sex with an underage girl in public view. While this latter gaffe isn't too bad, Governor Jeb Bush's muzzling of the police (or at least his attempt to) and his successful muzzling of the press was soon to be well known in political circles.
Again, the Gore team did not respond to these scandals and left the Jeb Bushes alone when they should have at least launched a mammoth whispering campaign against the Bush family and their lack of scruples in general.

The military ballots are another item of more than passing interest. I know, from a very good source, that Bush and RNC operatives instructed their most trusted “stormtroopers” that overseas ballots were the easiest to sneak into county ballot boxes across the state. Bush also sent operative to Europe to facilitate normal absentee voting as well as some “shenanigans” among the white skinhead mental cases who make up significant segments of the army and navy abroad. Their mission: to get absentee military votes sent to the US -- and especially to Florida -- in later days. How they were gotten was to remain a “mystery.”
Now this is nothing new in American politics. However, it is new to be involved in so closely watched a race, as is now the Florida situation. This is why the Bush people retracted their suit in District court on the military ballot issue -- and instead filed carefully chosen suits within each separate court in a handful of counties. The fact that many absentee ballots came in with no signatures and no postmarks -- or postmarks that were “rubbed out” -- was no coincidence. This is the method used to stuff absentee ballot boxes, along with looking the other way when absentees vote twice -- as many GOPers who got two ballots did.
The GOP also put out what is called “street money” both in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties. Street money is cash given to suffering minority men mostly and is payment to register and vote. In New Jersey, the mother of street money tactics, tens of thousands of twenty and fifty dollar bills are distributed like this every statewide election cycle.
I am sure that Democrats engaged in a like manner as far as street money goes, but they haven't the money that the GOP has.
Of course, not even the best pollsters on both sides could have known that only a few thousand votes out of more than 6 million could separate the Bush and Gore.
But when it became apparent -- even before the election was over -- the stuffing continued with reports of Bush votes being “found” magically in corners of classrooms, trash compactors, and other places where they were lost. One reader of ours claims that his brother delivered 50,000 phony Bush ballots into several Miami Dade polling places the last four hours of the vote.
Whether this is true or not, believe me -- some of this occurred.

(RNC headquarters), have broken, saddled and recruited every thug with enough gall to threaten Gore supporters and election officials in Florida, and to scream insults and epithets non-stop at the Gores at home in Washington.

But the best theater of all time in United States politics occurred Sunday night when Secretary of State Katherine Harris -- replete with a total makeover, which likely included use of a rock chisel to remove the pounds of makeup from her eyes and lips -- “certified” the vote in Florida, which would "make" Bush the President Elect.
Of course, her certification meant nothing.
Whatever the hocus pocus, whatever baronial room they chose to hold this backwater snake oil convention, however gently the documents were laid in front of the three state officials, Americans were not fooled...
Or were they?
Ever the weaselette, Ms. Harris refused to count the alternative votes that Palm Beach Country submitted because they were two hours from completing their Supreme-Court-ordered hand count.
But the best and most frightening event was to come -- an event so horrifying to Holocaust victims that I heard from three this morning before 9 am who were almost shivering as they told me they were frightened about what is happening in this country.

Absentee Ballots
Actually I believe the last I heard was not that ballots were incorrectly filled out. Compleat correct ballots were recieved. The problem was that the applications to recieve abentee ballots were supposed to have the voter's registration number printed on them. Thru a mix-up those applicatins did not have the number included. The fix ( which was probably illegal) was for someone to write in the proper voter ID number, which was obtained from the files at the clerk's office. The problem being debated is that GOP workers filled in the ID numbers for probable GOP voters, whereas the Democrates got left out of the operation. I think the courts will base thier decisions on why the Democrats did not particapate. Absentee voters still had to include thier Voter ID number when they submitted thier ballot, which apparently they did.

After watching trials all day, I understand the situation is that the GOP workers were allowed to correct numbers on application forms that THEY mailed to prospective voters in a "get out the vote" campaign. The Voter Registration Number is a matter of public record, and they obtained a complete list prior to printing and mailing the applications.
The only numbers that were changed, were those that were incorrectly printed as "2" on those applications that the GOP sent out instead of the correct number. Applications that were incorrect for some other reason, were not corrected, and since the preprinted applications the Demodratic party sent out printed correctly, there were none that required correction of a printing error as those the GOP sent out did.
In effect, the GOP was allowed to correct a mistake the GOP made, and NOT a mistake the applicant made. No one is complaining that the people who received the ballots resulting from the applications were not entitled to a ballot. The votes should be considered valid votes, and the contest should be dismissed. The problems were known before the ballots were opened and counted -- That is when these cases should have been brought. The cases should not have been braought now, when 13000 uncontested ballots in Seminole County might get thrown out with the 1932 ballots from the contested applications. A similar percentage of good votes are involved in the Martin County case.
