A Democratic Party activist filed suit in Seminole County Friday seeking to invalidate at least 4,700 of the 15,000 absentee ballots cast before the election.

The suit contends that the county elections supervisor allowed Republican activists to write registration numbers on the contested absentee ballot requests -- nearly all of them from registered Republicans -- when the requests were mailed in without numbers.

The voters were supposed to have written their registration numbers on the ballots themselves, the suit said. Seminole County voted 75,667 to 59,174 for Bush.

Florida old people mess up their ballots and everyone calls them stupid. The military, apparently, can't follow instructions either. Who's going to be the first to start calling the military stupid?

*silence*

Thought so. Interesting.

Imagine Einstein in camouflage, in the mess hall.

"I must eat very quickly."

Breaking the silence...

Where does it say that the people voting absentee are military? Quite a few of the Republican voters were urged by party leaders to request absentee ballots and "vote from the comfort of your living room."

Who's going to be first to call the Republicans stupid? :D

I'm not sure...I'd have to reread the article, but I believe that the votes in question are military votes cast for Bush.

Let me say (before the flames start) that I do not think that the military people who didn't follow the ballot instructions are stupid. Neither did was I one of those lambasting "those stupid Gore voters" in Palm Beach.

Do I think that those Palm Beach votes should count? No, though I do believe that the ballot should be changed next time. Do I think these military votes should count? Again, no, but I do think people - especially those in our military - need to be more thorough when they fill out something as important as a election ballot.

I've already read on a few other boards where those who laughed at "those dumbfuck old people in Palm Beach" are whining because the military votes will not be counted. You can't have it both ways. If you believe a ballot is only valid if correctly filled out, then that applies to everyone - not just those voting for the other candidate.

We finally agree on something in this election Laurel...but even so that still means that bush wins...everyone was so excited that this was a close election...but because of that...the people have turned even more crooked...just what we need for a president...what would we do if we ever got a honest man in that position???

Birds would bloom, flowers would sing, and pigs would fly to the moon. Luckily, that won't ever happen... :)

damn it is getting hot in here....and for all of those who just despise the neverending thread...laurel posted to it...LOL...sorry i just had to tell

Bill Clinton, Al Gore and George W. Bush
died and found
themselves standing on the other side
of the Jordan River,
looking across at the Promised Land.

The Archangel Michael was standing on the other side and shouted
over to the three surprised Americans,
"Contrary to what you have
been taught, each of you will have
to wade across the Jordan River."

As Michael saw their perplexed looks,
he reassured them by
saying, "Don't worry.
You will sink only proportionally
according to your sins on earth.
The more you have sinned the
more you will sink into the water."

The three American sages of political lore
looked at one another,
trying to determine who shall be the f
irst brave soul to cross
the Jordan River.

Finally George W. Bush volunteered to go first. Slowly he began
to wade out into the river,
and slowly the water began to get
higher and higher, reaching to his waist.
George began to sweat,
thinking all of his sins were coming
back to haunt him. He was
beginning to wonder if he would
ever see the other side.
Finally, after what seemed liked an eternity,
he began to emerge on the river's bank.

As he ascended to the other side,
he looked behind him to see
which one of the other brave souls
was going next. A shock of
surprise registered on his face,
as he saw Al Gore almost in the
middle of the river and only his ankles barely touching the water.
He turned to Michael and exclaimed,
"I know Al Gore, Al Gore is a friend of mine,
and he has sinned much,
much more than that!"

Before the Archangel Michael could reply,
Al Gore shouted back,
"I'm standing on Clinton's shoulders!"

Stupid Democrats.

I wonder, why don't they make a bigger issue of things like this? If the democrats had gone back and "fixed" some ballots like that, you know the Republicans would never shut up about it. I've seen Republicans all over the place accusing the Democrats of fraud because of completely legal recount, yet here is a case of legitimate fraud and the dems don't say anything about it. They hardly ever say anything about the fact that George Bush signed a manual recount law in Texas that had even more relaxed rules about how to count the votes than Florida has. Are the Dem's just dumb, or what?

I'm not sure...I think that they're trying to take the high road - to be the kinder gentler party - and it's failing miserably. They need to start calling shit when they see it instead of being all mealy-mouthed. It pisses me off too.

Laurel, I replied to your E, and now had another thought? To your question...we could post a what would you like to see type of questionaire post...what you think?

Isn't voting by absentee illegal if you are going to be in your voting district the day of the election? Wouldn't that be aiding and abetting?
I've heard that in certain locales it is. In SoCal, it is not. I vote absentee EVERY TIME I VOTE. I hate standing in lines. Did too much of that during 25 years active military duty. Won't do that to vote. It's much more comfortable at home.

Confused, Dazed and Bewildered Voters

Laurel, the 'confused and baffled voters' apparently were brought to light by a Texas PR firm hired by the DNC (or similarly positioned Democratic political machine) to canvass Democrat registered voters [scrupulously ignoring confused, baffled and dazed Republican voters] in southern Florida suggesting possible confusion with ballots and mismarkings. And would these people be interested in participating in a public campaign regarding ballot problems which made them fear they had inadvertantly voted for the wrong candidate. Sorry I didn't take the time to write down details but I caught this off the radio at work.

It was subsequent to this phone brigade that Wexler began to get the frantic, tearful calls from disenfranchised voters

It seems the 'confusion factor' is a manufactured 'problem' [like most socio-political the Democrats feel the burning need to solve by stealing an ever-increasing percentage of my livelihood] with which the Demcratic party hopes to steal the election. Based on the party leadership, their advertising campaigns filled with lies, distortions and out of context quotes and the candidates they have put up to run for office, I find that far more believeable than incredulous.

Algore himself has said, "I have never said anything that was untrue." So I guess I should retract my earlier statement. Hmmm ... have to reflect on this awhile. I'm sure he wouldn't lie to me. I know Bill was telling the truth when he said, "I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinski, not one time" and shook his finger at the camera.

I knew right then that he did not have sex with her one time. I don't know how many and don't care but I knew it wasn't just once!

My fundamental point is, based on observation over a few years, when it comes to believing someone with a fairly well-known political public persona, when the choice is between a Democrat and a Republican, the odds are STONGLY in my favor that the Republican is more likely to be honest by a significant margin, IMNTBHO on the order of 10:1 or better.

While there is little significant difference in the underlying principles to which the parties subscribe, the people of the Republican side seem generally to be far more honorable and forthright. There are exceptions, of course, on both sides. But even Nixon was far more honorable than Algore! On the Democrat side, I believe Carter was honest. It's just that honesty did not outweigh his ineptness and incompetence. No one could be that honest, no even me! :)

I still vote Libertarian if that choice is available because I know the honesty factor there is equivalent to my own.
