Hi everyone. I don't know if this has been posted here before or not, but I'm doing it now, and sincerely hope that all of you will sign it.

It's a petition for equal rights marriage for the GLB community. The goal is a million signatures, and they still need a little more than 200,000.

Million For Marriage Petition

signed with a fake email adress, since there is no way I am posting my email adress. But I signed, since I believe in equal human rights every where. No matter sex/gender. And sexuality. Or race for that matter.

most definately i will sign...marriage isn't supposed to be anything with religion required...if you love someone let them know it by getting married. but other people's opinion or religion shouldn't affect your decision in life. right?

exactly! its for our creator to decide whatever religion they see is right but my guess if they are all powerful and we are sinful and insignificant we probably got religions in general wrong.

Actually it's not so much a question of right or wrong religiously (though marriage was originally a religious institution), or even love, so much as how best to handle the situation politically and how to rewrite the law.

Unless I'm reading the petition wrong, it's for legal rights to marry for the GLB community under the law. That nary concerns Church, nor God, or whathaveyou.

Honestly though, I'm not a big fan of the simple solution of "just let GLB's marry". I think that the whole section of the law needs to be rewritten as it was apparently too rigid in it's definitions. We need to have a more adaptable legal solution for dealing with the legal rights of couples. Just changing the definition of marriage (from a legal standpoint) to include GLB's won't remove it's rigidity at all; 5 years from now when the Polyamorists want the same rights (and yes, they will), we'll have to deal with the same issues again. Simple changes will only lead back to similar issues.

I also haven't quite decided if it would be best to handle this on a federal level, or let each state vote on the issue for itself. Both options have their good and bad points.

I don't like being told I can't be with someone in that way. It's just not right. Whenever I find Ms. Right, if it comes down to joining in matrimony, I want to be able to do so. Sheesh.

Signed.. being an aussie i dont know if it helps or not..

all i know is that i was talking to a gay friend last year who was absolutely pissed off because our prime minister. good old johnny decided no on gay marriage just before gay pride... or something like that. i was in no state to be listening at the time.
