Military Reform: Reversing the Decline

By Gary Anderson
September 05, 2024

Since 2020, the nation's military has undergone one of the most humiliating periods in its history. The disgraceful rout at Hamid Karzai International airport during the Afghanistan withdrawal. Soon after, the decrepit state of naval maintenance and shipbuilding is the worst since the Navy’s founding.

Further compounding the humiliation, the Marine Corps has been castrated into a regional force whose legendary force in readiness is being replaced by a combination of colonial light infantry and coastal defense artillery.

The tragic decline of our nation’s armed forces coincides with the greatest recruiting crisis that our Army has suffered since the activation of the all-volunteer force in the 1970s.

We are now experiencing the greatest decline in American combat power since the end of World War II. America's military is becoming a hollow force not seen since the Carter years.

Much more here: https://www.realcleardefense.com/ar...ary_reform_reversing_the_decline_1056296.html

Much is said about the demise of the United States Marine Corps and our dwindling Naval capability, but our Army is a hollowed out force as well. We really have to ask ourselves how and why are these gigantic military defense appropriations passed by Congress producing incompetence, failure, and possible defeat in the near future. 11 aircraft carriers and only two are deployable and both are in the same place, why? Historic recruiting failures, why? Three divisions of disarmed Marines, why? Has the CCP installed itself into our military command structure like they have out political leadership? There has to be a reason why the most expensive defense structure on earth is failing.

Lol.....I'm going to make a guess that you believe it's single women and effeminate men that are the issue (plus Democrats)

Like you blame everything on.

Broken record

Incompetent and politicized national command structures pursuing political goals instead of national security goals are to blame. Yes the CCP is getting their money's worth out of Joe Biden.

If the US was smart, they'd massively cut military spending and pull out of policing/interfering with all the other countries. Keep and maintain a decently funded miitary for sure, but you only need one big enough and well equipped enough to strongly discourage your next biggest rival from fighting you.

Now, that's smart from the taxpayer's point of view. But if the interest is maintaining the petro dollar and bullying other countries all over the place where nothing matters except making the next dollar for the rich elite, keep on going with the status quo.

^Good post (for once.) I agree. I can understand how the Afghanistan conflict started- it started with 9-11, but there was never any justification for Bush going into Iraq. All that did was de-stabilize the region, lead to the creation of ISIS (Which was actually an even bigger regional threat than Saddam ever was) and waste endless taxpayer dollars and human lives. And yeah, a whole lot of military-industrial complex contractors got really, really rich off of it.

That's certainly part of the problem. The other issue is that the job of the Armed Forces is to kill people and break things, not to become an "all inclusive' social club. The very people the services need to recruit are turning their back. We who have served are telling our children and grandchildren to turn away, there is no future based on meritorious service.

The reason for a recruitment crisis is threefold first and foremost the economy is doing well. Military enlistment goes up during times of high unemployment the military is one of the few places you can a job with no experience.

The second reason for lower recruitment is we are not engaged in any large-scale military conflicts at the moment. We have pulled out of Afghanistan and Iraq so the military needs fewer people, and less technology overall. Weapons systems and personnel don’t have to be constantly replaced because of combat losses.

During times of “peace,” the military is picky about who it selects to join its ranks. Nowadays you need a high school diploma or equivalent, no criminal record, a clean driving record and pass a Background check and physical exam, and do well on military aptitude tests to be selected for military service. The military can afford to be fussy at the moment as to who they select.

Have no fear when we embroil yourselves in another conflict high-school dropouts, people with low IQs and you will once again be able to trade jail time for military service and recruitment will climb. Oh, and I almost forgot the recruitment crisis is right-wing political bullshit.. Presently we have the strongest fighting force in the history of the world. But to garner votes republicans rely on fear to gain votes and power.

1. Biden keeps starting wars.
2. The US has never been so unprepared for war.

/Repeat both, endlessly.
