strategic = long term objective.

Example: Though it wasn't part of the strategy to start the war with a precision strike on Saddam's house, the CIA intelligence created a tactical opportunity, so they jumped on it.

Pas de problemo; I'm no military guy, but the terms are used constantly in ad & marketing campaigns...it's always funny to see a bunch of art directors and marketing weasels tossing around military phrases like "war room" ...but that's another thread.
