Michael Moore is not a traditional documentarian. He dosen't hoe the "just the facts" line that the academy purports to love. He goes in with a stated POV and then proves it. The branch of the Motion Picture Academy that votes on the documentaries is notorious for being obtuse, obstinate and way behind the times. Every year there are stories of how the selection committee is totally out of touch and cavalier. I would be surprised if they give Moore an oscar for Columbine. I think they actually gave him a nomination to keep the heat off the committee.

michael moore is my fucking hero. even though he's really leftist, not that there's anything wrong with that, he has a really poignant way of putting things together that makes you really think about how messed up the "civilized" world is.

Probably the most thrilling thing about "Bowling For Columbine" was when he asked Marilyn Manson what he would say to the kids at Columbine and Manson replied, "I wouldn't say a thing. I'd listen to what they have to say since the rest of the world doesn't seem to be doing that." Period. Of all the shocking scenes in the entire movie, that one line just blew me away. Marilyn Manson, ladies and gentlemen. Possibly the one man in America who's got it figured out....
