I'm thinking of doing something like this for my driveway. I have a big circle drive with a small parking area on either side and between the circle and the streetside sidewalk there is a stone walled off area with trees in it.

It would be an as I can piece it together type of project, something like laying down a few square feet at a time on weekends.

I've always loved cobblestone from when I grew up in Europe. Some of the places there are absolutely beautiful and being so close to old mexico we have some historic areas with cobblestone streets and walks so it would not be out of place. In my neighborhood maybe, I have the biggest piece of private home property in the whole neighborhood so maybe it would set a trend. I secretly want my own villa!

I love that look. I say go for it. Just don't do it during the heat of the day. At your age you gotta be careful.

You should know, I changed out the lock on the cookie vault since you "lost" the key that I loaned you!

The cookie vault was empty anyway. I've been using it to store Shankie's extra undies.

Whatever. It's empty cause I ate them all. Nice try covering up your negligant cookie-cide.

Hey, you ate the cookies! It's solely your cookie-cide.

I saw in a magazine once this really cool cobblestone look. It wasn't solid brick, it was like a design, a flower design made of bricks. They'd allowed grass to grow where there wasn't any brick. It was beautiful. Granted, living in NM, it probably wouldn't be the best idea since I think all the grass is dead in that part of the world. But it was still cool looking.

Mine was planned cookie-cide. Yours was negligant. You're an accessory cause you gave me the key to get to them, knowing what I'd do.

Well, you're a regular SAMMIE Spade, private eye!

Looks wonderful...just if you're using it for a driveway instead of a walkway, make sure you pay special attention to the preparation so the weight of cars is no problem.

Yes, block paving, pavers - sort of driveway fashion at the moment in the UK, very nice though, much nicer than concrete and so much quieter than gravel.

They have that sort of stuff all over downtown portland, and I think it looks so much nicer looking.

My economics teacher had a side business where he did amazing things concrete driveways, patios, and walkways. He could make concrete look like like cobblestone, brick, stenciled in any design you want, and come in a range of colors. He said it was more cost effective and durable than putting in something like a traditional cobblestone. I don't know if that is true or not but the pics he showed were impressive.

I can't remember his website but this one is close to what his looked like.

We ended up going for aggregate concrete for one reason only: with stones, stuff tends to grow up between them and then you have to weed. Also, over time they tend to shift - we had to relay the path to the back and the walkways. So now they're all the concrete with the stones in it. It only sucks a bit in winter because you can't shovel all the way down to them and you can't use salt. We got a really big, stiff broom. Also, my dad decided the sides should be stamped concrete and its FUCKING SLIPPERY. Doesn't matter to anyone else, but I park on the left really close to the edge and have to be really careful not to walk on it (learned from bitter experience).

Maybe I just have strange ideas and sensibilities. Even when I was house hunting I found only one that I really liked. The new homes had an artificial feel to them. I didn't feel anything for them, didn't speak out to my personality. Concrete is good stuff but I get a kick out of things with more an artisan feel to them.

I hear that. The houses me and K like, when we're driving around looking at houses and stuff, are the more old fashioned ones. The ones with the porches, and the gables, and the old rose bushes, etc.
