If any of you all are men who prefer women to not be extremely feminine, I'd love to hear about why. I'm asking this because it seems to me that porn typically exaggerates the femininity of the actresses to an almost ridiculous degree, and it all seems a bit alien to me. So I wanted to know if it was at all popular to prefer the opposite.

Not that she swings my way, but I've always thought that Joan Jett was hotter than Hell.

I personally am attracted to women with strong personalities and an independant mindset because then their personality is genuine and not some attempt to fit in with ridiculously old social norms that basically say that women are supposed to be submissive to men. I can't date women with that old traditional mindset because it makes it impossible to distinguish whether a woman actually has any genuine feelings for me at all. Communication and trust get destroyed very quickly in such a setup.

In addition, I'm not really the macho type. I tend to be assertive and seek women of similar nature. So I guess in answer to your question, yes there are men who prefer the opposite of exagerated femininity. Personally the most ideal woman I can think (personality not being considered) is one with an strong independant mindset and a fit body. In the end aggressiveness is preferable in a woman to submissiveness. I hope that cleared something up for you.:)

Agreed. I always thought Lucy Lawless was incredibly hot too.

Yeah...WNBA types get my motor humming. Damned if I know why, but women that fall into the dyke stereotype attract me. Before anybody gets in a huff over that, I'm not out to change anybody...this is all head trippin'.

I don't see that whether a woman is assertive or not should really be part of this debate. I know plenty of feminine women who are assertive as hell and tomboys who lack self confidence/assertiveness. Just seems like those should be two separate debates to me.

My style has always been a bit emo/goth/androgynous but I'm a sub maso and not really very assertive outside of the circle of people I'm familiar with, like subordinates at work and such.

Definately. I find myself attracted hipster/punk lesbian types very frequently, especially if she has good curves. Piercings, short hair, etc. Lesbians with an outdoors/sporty look generally turn me on though.

Sorry, but it's hard to get turned on by a woman whose beard is heavier than my own. It's just so confusing when both of us are trying to shave in the morning. :D

Yeah I don't personally think of submissiveness as feminine or dominance as masculine. I meant more the way female sexuality in porn seems to be connected to cat-like behavior - arching, purring, rubbing up against things, yowling, licking their lips, swinging their hips, the gait of walking on high heels. That kind of physical femininity. And the accessories that go with it, like lipstick and dresses and elaborate hair. As opposed to tomboys who have more masculine body language - a solid stance ready to turn into wrestling, upper arms clearly thick enough that the woman wouldn't have difficulty carrying 100lbs, similarly strong (not narrow) waist, just overall an impression of a woman who is a workhorse, not a sex kitten.

Of course there are. You're mature enough not to correlate porn too much with real life aren't you?

If you're a tomboy yourself just look at your own experiences... you've had men show interest in you and be attracted to you haven't you?

I like a woman that is a good combination of girly girl and tomboy, without hitting the extremes of either end. I really cannot stand a high maintenence woman, nor one that thinks a good day is pounding back a six pack and 'goin muddin' on a regular basis!

I prefer boyish looking women. The kind with small breasts, narrow hips with only a hint of curves. But body types are only a small part of a relationship. Personality wise I like women who are educated, confident and self sufficient. I take the personality over the body any day.

As much as you made me laugh...
I was thinking when I read the post that he was talking about me. I'm sexy as hell in jeans and a T. But will put on a skirt if I must. Would rather be swinging from a tree which could be very fun with the right guy... Ok I got off track. I was the girl in school who when I showed up in a skirt, all heads turned. One, because I was a tom boy. Two, because I have killer, legs. ;)

What type of women

A woman's looks are less important to me than her ideas, values, sense of humor and intellect. I am as likely to find a girly girl sexy as I am to find a tomboy girl sexy. It can be either one for me

I find that what's most often exagerrated in porn is not so much the feminine aspect as that of the female itself. Often to a ludicrous degree, viz the mammoth plastic funbags, clothes from Fredrick's, and makeup applied with a trowel.
And while I can't find that type to be attractive at all, neither do I get woody over what is commonly regarded as feminine, since it so often seems to be characterized much more by affectations and accessories than anything sensual in any way.
For me, there is a very powerful and primal response to a very female woman such as, say, Angelina Jolie, but virtually no sensual or sexual reaction to any of the stars of "Sex and the City."
Going back, back, I've always thought of Sophia Loren as my vision of "Woman Eternal," and I found that Jane Russell used to send my little adolescent hormones into critical mass, while Marilyn Monroe just didn't move me at all.
It's the narrow waist, wide hip and toned leg that first snap my neck around, and as a woman draws closer I'm totally taken in by a look of confidence and capability found in the eyes and posture, before she ever says a word. I just react to alpha females, I guess, and they're never feminine; just gorgeously female.
And no, I'm not forgetting about breasts. Sure, I love 'em, whether large or small, but I just don't find them to be the most attractive feature on a woman, and not what initially gets my attention.
If you want to have a good idea of why, as males and females, we're attracted to each other, ferret out a copy of "The Naked Ape" by Desmond Morris. You're guaranteed some "Aha!" moments.

Absolutely love skinnier girls with small breasts, short hair. Goth/punk/emo with tattoos and piercings is an added bonus for me. I still like a feminine personality though. Not really into really butchy masculine acting girls. I have known a few really masculine lesbians and they were super fun to hang out with, but no real sexual attraction for me.
As to why I find Tomboyish girls attractive, I really have no idea.

not so sure if this is what you mean, but the other day I was thinking of the women I have had serious relationships all had very short hair, in a couple of cases shorter than mine. SO I guess I have a thing for women with short hair.

Outside of that though, they were all very curvy and fem.

I simply haven't came across the "extremely feminine" types on here that you describe. I absolutely LOVE feminine women. How could I possibly find tom-boys attractive? I might as well go the whole hog and find myself a man!

Here in real life, real women have more-or-less became extinct, replaced by unattractive, tattooed, trouser wearing tom-boys

It's only a matter of time before they stop wearing make-up and get themselves a pragmatic crew-cut.
