Men to blame for the menopause?

Why yes.

While I posted it more for its amusement value you could base a bizarre revenge plot around it. As I said, make of it what you will.

This is another one of those 'studies' that prove water is wet, the sky is blue and falling from a great height can kill you.

As far as men being responsible for causing menopause in women, remember the old axiom: 'Women have their faults, men have only two, everything they say and everything they do'.

Or, as the bumper sticker says: 'Warning, I'm low on estrogen and I have a gun'. :D

Heehee, Mr Dee actually pointed it out to me the other day. He looked at me sheepishly, the poor dear, probably expecting me to laughingly dismiss it.

I say screw it, let's blame the men! :D

Sorry Deprived you're gonna have to get in line. (LOL)

Why blame men? Lets blame the young hot women, cause we know they all seek out aging fat assed guys, regardless of income. I wanna get paid to do some ridiculous study.

You know dang, it's fun to blame men but what the heck. I remember reading a while ago that women have so many active egg nodules or whatever the hell they were called that produce so many eggs then stop working. Once you run out of those you are infertile and menopause comes on.

In other words, it's not because of men, but just simply a fault in our own bodies. Course go back far enough in time and getting a gray hair, let alone a whole head of it was incredibly fucking rare. As in it didn't matter if she was not as young as the other gal, she was still fertile.

When was this, that grey hair was "incredibly fucking rare." Are you suggesting that people's hair didn't turn grey at all, or that it just turned grey later in life?

I assume she means they'd be dead before the melanin stopped its production which causes grey hair.

This whole theory falls apart pretty quickly when you realize that even three or four hundred years ago, few people lived much past 40 :p

Back when the bulk of natural selection was taking place, that lifespan was probably even shorter. It just doesn't jive. You can't natural select for a trait that never comes into play.

Uh, so who's responsible for women being on the rag all the time! Guys, of course.

Dee, even on a first name basis you're still going to have to get in line. I will add it is a damn long line too.

Naoko, not only are men responsible for it stopping it seems also for the start. Men-struation, this despite the fact it is also known as Mens-frustration.

Agreed. Average human lifetime was something like 40 years back in the bad old days. And for women that was even less as there was a high rate of death in childbirth. If she was fertile enough, she could have a baby a year and each one put her at risk from dying from all kinds of things.

So providing a 13 year old survived giving birth, she became a grandma at age 26 and a great-grandma at age 39, about the time whens she was likely to pass away--this from just hard living, disease, starvation, etc.

For a woman in the early days to live long enough to go through menopause and get a full head of gray hair was rare (premature gray hair streaking or threading 30-something's hair was undoubtedly common). Which makes me doubt this article. It seems to also forget that those animals that are fertile throughout their lifetime are not fertile all the time like humans. Most were only fertile at certain times of the year--sometimes only once a year; and evolutionary they'd give birth in the spring (for example) when it's the optimal time (good weather, plenty of food, etc.). That's not like human women who can get pregnant at almost any time, and may give birth at terrible times (like the middle of winter).

Actually, evolutionarily speaking, men going for young women saves older but still fertile women from dying. It allows them more time to recover from giving birth rather than birth-after-brith and risk of death with each one.

Are you STILL cranky about some of my poorly planned visits to you? :p

Any visit from Aunt Flo is poorly timed, so men definitely didn't come up with the whole show. We all like our pussy too much. :D
