Memory Loss:Intentional Amnesia

For a change I'll leave my carnival barker banter aside and ask what I mean to be taken as a serious question.
Has anyone here at Lit had any experiences that have resulted in long term memory loss, either accidental or deliberately intention. Short of the application of a ballpean hammer to the skull, I'm looking for a means to erase or block access to large sections of memory and if possible bring on amnesia. I've heard that certain concoctions of chemicals, recreational and prescription, can achieve this result, I've had little success doing research on the internet and it seems locating anything on inducing amnesia is not openly published.
I was told that the prolonged use of the drug Ecstasy has caused memory damage to some users but I've found little documentation to support that belief, again should anyone be able to direct me to any information on the web it would be much appreciated. Ah for the 1950s and 1960s when the solution I seek was only as far away as my friendly neighborhood lobotomist......

Sure it'd be great to block out CERTAIN memories (like getting caught by the cops making out with an old flame), but I don't think there's anything out there that's SELECTIVE with regards to memory loss. It's not like deleting a file on the computer!

I'm sure there are enough toxins out there that'll induce memory loss, but heck if I want to lose things like how to get it on, where my car keys are, how to use an ATM, passwords online, phone numbers, etc...

Fallen, you need to watch more soap operas if you want to learn about amnesia.

Why are you so interested anyway? I don't do drugs, except for a little pot, and even that kills some brain cells. From what I hear, ecstasy is some nasty shit in the long run, I'd stay away from it.

This is something you want to know for something you're writing, right? I mean, it isn't what it sounds like? that you want to do something horrible to someone else and make them forget about it afterwards?

Dear fallen5of7,

You have completely lost me, but I just wanted to tell you that you have the best AV here at Lit! :D

A rodent at heart

My thanks, Arden, it must be my being born in the Year of the Rat that made me feel comfortable using the little critter....

whoa. whoa.

so, what criminal act are you intending to pull off?

it could be a good excuse if the evidence is circumstantial... :p

Nothing so sinister

If I were so inclined to commit any criminal acts I'd prefer to remain cognicent of doing so, how else might I properly negotiate the television and film rights not to mention the soon-to-be best seller everyone would be talking about.....My research, as it is only research at this point, concerns nothing that would be bring harm to anyone other than myself should it progress to the experimentation stage. I'm commiting no crime in definition than masturbation is self-rape rather than self-love.....
