For those of you that do not have The Discovery Channel on HBO or were just not watching it these were the two programs that inspired me to make a post yesterday night on the under-water cities.
Mega-Tsunami, a nightmare that scientist did not even know existed until recently when one was eyewitnessed occurring.
You see, they have computer monitors to predict the height of a Tsunami caused by an earthquake. In an absolute worst case scenario an under-water mega-quake would generate a wave the size of a five-story building.
Mega-Tsunamis is hell's hand, making that aqua-quake's wave destruction look like pitiful plaything.
A massive avalanche into a lake or ocean causes a mega-tsunami. One actually happened in a bay (in Canada I think). There were three boats in the harbor at the time when the whole side of a cliff broke off and collapsed into the water. After an explosion of water thousands of feet high a wave came charging at them A HALF A KILOMETER HIGH!!!
One boat was lucky enough to ride the crest and was washed onto the land watched among the broken trees of the forest. The other two were no so lucky and were washed out to the ocean.
The mega-Tsunamis are most often caused by the collapse of unstable volcanic Islands. One of the Islands set to collapse would cause a mega-Tsunami to hit the Eastern seaboard of the US with a wave taller than the Sears tower! And another thing about them, they do NOT lose energy like wind-driven waves but keep on traveling thousands of miles and roll right over land like a plow.
The second program was about an Ancient Greek city lost to the tidal wave of an earthquake. It was great, it even had the soundtrack to Indian Jones and The Last Crusade in it when they were describing the lost city. Very cool stuff!
I'm pretty bummed out now because I am watching the ending to The Perfect Storm, sad stuff.
