Where the hell can I find something affordable? Everything is either 200 bucks, horrendously ugly, or absoultely perfect but I have to make the damn thing myself.
Normally I would do something like that dress, but this time around I was trying to get away from my usual gothy look and into the cleavage toting barwench look.
Or something like THIS, which I am too broke and poor to afford. But it is absofuckinglutely perfect.
Angel, I have a pattern for the most beautiful gown style, yet it is very time consuming to make, and I don't know how much it would cost to make, but if you are patient, maybe we could work something out. I don't expect to be paid by a friend, so I'd just have to have you buy the fabric and send it to me, and I could sew it over time, and then send it back to you.
We could talk in private about those details later.
I will grab the pattern that I have and take a pic of the dress style (you are only looking at the style to decide, not the fabric in the pic because you pic the fabrics you want.)
Send me your size on a pm and I'll tell you how much of what "kinds"s of fabrics and trim you need to get.
I will beg a pic off of my folks of my brother's wedding where I made my sister in law's dress. It was this gown but in white with dark green sheer capped short sleaves instead of long ones, and only one set of gaunlets instead of two as the pattern indicates. This pattern doesn't have a corset, but I could work something out if you want one. That just requires interfacing, lacing, and rivets.
I am a qualified seamstress, and I can do it, but any alterations you want done to the pattern have to be covered clearly before I sew.
This could take a long ass time, but honestly, it could cost as little as 50-100 bucks depending on what you want.
I'll post a pic as soon as I can.
i have a pattern that i bought for a goth dress that i made last halloween. the pattern can make quite a few different style dresses. they are relatively cheap too, mine cost abt $40 to make. If you want fishy to make it i could give her the pattern # and stuff. and ya'll could talk..... let me see if i can find the dang thing and i'll scan & post pics here
Hey guys. I work in a fabric store so know all these and know the short cuts. When buying the fabric don't just look at conventional stuff. Check out the bargain home decs. The JoAnn stores have a whole line of them that go for as little as 1.96 a yard. They are awesome. Also check out the thrift stores for draperies and such. Old tapestry bedspreads and that stuff for the trims. there is where you will spend the money, the trims. Europa is a fantastic line for the embroidered and gilded trims you need, but wait till they go on sale or you have a 50% coupon.
Any one need advice or specifics just pm me and I am glad to help.
This site shows how to find old clothes and modify them into Medieval garb, especially if you're on a tight budget. Maybe You and Fishie can come up with something! I think it's a GREAT idea, and do check out the patterns at a fabric store.
Okay, this site is really pricey, but they have some cool ideas! They even have a dress that's made to look like Lily's "bride of Satan" dress in "Legend."
This may seem odd, but this is what I did for a medieval wedding I attended. Check thrift stores for prom dresses. A lot of the 80's style prom dresses (and bridesmaid) were cut similar to the medieval style. Meaning a tight bodice and full skirt. I found one in a dark blue, then added the extra touches to it to give it a renaissance look. I used a vest pattern to make the surcoat (similar to the one in the pic Angel posted), lacing the panels together instead of sewing (actually much easier than sewing). I added some embroidered trim and some black lace. All which I purchased for mere pennies from an odds and ends bin at the fabric store. The gown I found wasn't a realy shiny material which is what I wanted. I paid $10 for the gown and prolly another $20 for the add ons. The sleeves of the gown worked with what I wanted , but if they didn't you can remove them, hem up the sleeveless bodice and have a garment underneath.
OMG You guys are awesome. Starfish, I adore you. Really. I never expected THAT, but if you really want to do it, I'd be honored.
Thank you so much all of you. I think I'm going to look around at all the suggestions, and get a perfect picture of what I want in my mind and then we can work from there, Fishy?
I'll E-mail you when I DO have every last detail down so you don't get sick of me flooding your inbox everytime I remember something.
Oh Angel, don't worry. If you have a question, don't hold it back, for fear of pissing me off. It takes trolls, and mommy murderers to piss me off dear Angelcakes.
All this talk of gown making is making me feel like I am going to have to go sew now.
