Okay, so I used to have all movies downloaded from the net played straight to Windows Media Player, but then my dad screwed with my computer and installed Quicktime. Now the movies I want to watch on the net always play on Quicktime, which is really slow and distorts the sound.

How do I reset mpegs to play on Windows Media?

2 ways...go to quicktime and go under prefrenses and turn it off that way or go into prefrenses in WMP and click all the file type's that you wan to be played through it.

Open Up Windows Media Player

Then:

TOOLS>OPTIONS>FILE TYPES> (Select All)

Not working, guys. All the file types are already selected. For some reason it's choosing to use Quicktime over Windows Media.

Open up windows media player and then click on file.

Go to the open tab on the file list and then browse for the movie you want.

It kind of sucks to do it manualy but if you can't find out a way to change the default player this will work.

Now what kind of movies are you trying to watch?? Porn perhaps?? hehe

Ok, I deleted quicktime a long time ago, but assuming there's NOT an option to deselect it as the default player, you can always reset it in folder options-->types and change the default there. But it's kinda a pain in the anus to do there.

I'm trying to watch all mpegs, including porn. :p

Fucktime was removed long ago, and it's still playing! How can that be?

I am not willing to open each file individually, that's a pain in the ass.

Nora, the options folder in what program?

So does that mean you can or can't go into quick time and deselect all the file types?

mkay, if they're all mpegs, it's easier.

I'm on win98se, so for me it's:

start button--->settings--->folder options--->file types tab

find mpeg (on mine it's called "movie clip") and choose "edit"

then choose edit again and browse for the exe for winmedia player. On mine it looks like this: "C:\PROGRA~1\WINDOW~1\mplayer2.exe" /Play "%L"

Too funny....I posted the same exact question yesterday....quick time blows chunks.

I uninstalled the whole thing, and yeah go to preferences in the WMP, and selet it to play whatever you want which may not mean select all as previously mentioned.....you may have a winamp music player for example.......Dont forget to click APPLY after you select and just dont click ok.....Apply, Ok.

Open any file folder or Windows Explorer, and click on View along the top. At the bottom of the drop-down menu is Folder Options. Click on this, and another window opens. Click on the File Types tab, and look for Movie Clip, Video Clip, Quicktime Movie and anything else that opens with Quicktime. Remove them all.

Once you've done that, the next time you click on a file of those types, it will prompt you for which program to use to open it. If you click the box that enables the program to always open files of that type, it will be added to the File Type Register.

If Quicktime is still running programs, you didn't delete it. Maybe you only deleted a shortcut to the program.

*sigh*

Okay, I've removed all Quicktime programs under file type, and edited all programs that were previously running on Quicktime to run on Windows Media.

And it STILL won't work! Now it tries to open with Quicktime, but doesn't continue through. Might I have to restart for these changes to go into effect?

Quicktime fucked my PC up. Even when I had all the file types selected to run under media player they still wouldn't. I finally installed windows media player again from the microsoft website and it fixed it.

Shit! I rebooted and it still runs on Quicktime. I swear to God, absolutely nothing in the file types folder is running on Quicktime. There is no Quicktime folder anywhere that I can see. How is this happening?!

Good idea, Worm. Sounds like a good last resort, and I am definitely there.

Is it possible that Quicktime is running in the background? Kind of like a spyware program?

Try adaware..

Pyper, just manually reset the default player as I outlined above. It's not very hard.

I was gonna say that if it wasn't working still to just remove wmp and install it again...should fix it.

Nora, I spent 20 minutes doing just that! It still runs on Quicktime.

That's seriously fucked up.

*thinking*

Are there other listings for mpegs on your file types list? Check it for mpeg, mpg and movie clip.
