Maybe..will North Korea change now?

His son is a puppet of the real powerbrokers, mostly the military. so no, I don;t see any real change coming down the pike for N Korea anytime soon.

yeah..I remember in high school thinking, "this is a state to be afraid of"

And hello, and hugs too

North Korean citizen have chosen the Communist system.

Obviously they are happy with their choice.

North Korea is not a poor banana republic like Iraq or Libya.

Won't change much unless they are overthrown. Those tht are in power will not give it up as they will probably be put to death.

You are right...they are even more destitute than either of those nations...they eat fucking grass to keep from starving to death, forced to worship their leader like a god at gun point and shot execution style for farting sideways. How the fuck do you get "happy with their choice" from that? Those people have been brainwashed into thinking eating tree bark is a normal thing.....they just don't know any better.

To red...nothing will change, from everything I have read/herd his kid is even a bigger nut job than Mr.Ronery ever was so it might get even uglier over there.

Or is his son so indoctrinated that he'll be the New God Of North Korea?

Nobody knows the real birthdate of Kim Jong Eun let alone what his plans will be for his inherited failed state.

When Kim Jong Il was given the scepter, it was speculated he would be a reformer of some type. They were right; he reformed a lot of things such as shifting the reliance to the KPA from the KWP, devaluing the currency to squelch the market, etc. Too bad those reforms were not for the better.

Chances are, North Korea will change when forced to.

Why does China support NK? I've not heard of NK having any natural resources, the really aren't in a strategic location viz-a-viz China, they have no market to speak of.

What's in it for China?

I think we place too much importance on individuals and personality cults- a entire society is not going to change because a figurehead kicks the bucket.

Oh, and it is speculated KJE will not be calling the shots because he is too green. Questions of the legitimacy are in the air too. Kim Jong Il had a similar analysis.

Also, if you google earth Pyongyang, a lot of the roofs are bright blue. How come?

They are Anti-American in a sea of Pro-American. Enough said.

Tradition. A holdover from the Cold War, and specifically from the days when the Commies could think they were winning it. All largely irrelevant now, but the PRC still can't dump NK without losing face.

China has been investing heavily in North Korea's rich mineral deposits and ports. They are also instrumental in helping develop special economic zones such as the port city of Rason and the island of Hwanggumpyong.

Also, China has been central to North Korea's marketizing economy. Not only from citizens looking to fend for themselves (If the state does not provide, what else can they do?) but from the government via corruption, black market and official business (stocking up Department Store 1 in Pyongyang for instance).

There is a lot in it for China, including that buffer zone, although that theory has been hampered somewhat by the leaked cables from Beijing.

Oh, but the society has been changing, which is why the government sits uneasily on top of said society. Over the last 15 years, they have been trying a lot of things to reassert control.

Maybe now the folks in North Korea will send missles into South Korea.

Iran is supplying missiles to (from) North Korea just fine. It is a nice partnership of sorts.

You see that back home in Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia a lot too - but there it's because the roof leaks and those blue tarps are a classy fix.

My very rich neighbor has a blue metal roof; makes his house look like a bait shop on a big pond...

But I'm pretty sure he's Scots-Irish...

;) ;)
