Government considers ape rights bill

By: valencialife.net

The socialist PSOE party is apparently intent on introducing a bill aimed at giving apes the same rights as man, "and the immediate inclusion of these animals as people." As a result, the bill adds that apes "should have the same moral and legal protection that humans currently enjoy."

Fernando Sebastian, the bishop of Tudela has termed the measure as "making oneself looking ridiculous in the name of progress, and then what about the rights of the fighting bulls?" Meanwhile, other political commentators have stated that as a result of these measures, it will not be long before apes names will start appearing on the electoral rolls.

Bwahahahahahahahaha,

I'm loving this. It's too funny.
Somehow I'm surprised that this wasn't tried here first.

Attention grabber...yeah, it was indeed.
But why did you have to scare us like that?

SOME socialists, in Spain, are acting like they're fucking nuts.
Where Ami., and you this time my dear Liar, go wrong is in over-generalising.

just like "The Democratic Party" or "The Republican party" do not actually speak one hundred percent of the time for one hundred percent of their members, yanno. :)

Oh bugger. What's the fun of being fair and balanced? That's hijaced by Fox News anyway.

Have a :nana:

...before they get human rights too.

Insanity, like death, pays no attention to political leanings.

Although, admittedly, insanity does seem to group in certain sectors.

"Get your hands off me, you damned, dirty ape!"

sorry, had to say it...

now back to your regularly scheduled debate... :D

I think it's time we captured Liar and administered a little corrective action ;) If we do it correctly he won't enjoy at least the first 3 minutes, so it counts as punishment...

very funny

ok, 'same as humans' is going too far.

but there is a lot of inhumane treatment of higher primates (apes). for instance some are used in experiments for several years and become habituated and attached to humans. is it fine to euthanize them or discard them when the experiment is over?

does an ape deserve better treatment than a guinea pig, or no?

again, you may laugh, but there are now some refuges set up where these primate discards can peacefully live out their days. (and yes I guess they have to go without cable TV and without yogurt smoothies for breakfast and high count egyptian cotton sheets at night.)

I was not going to participate here for reasons of my own, however, aside from the shcok value of using 'Amicus' in the title slot, there is something interesting underlying the post.

Without a well defined, 'absolute' system of human values based on ethics and logic and moral actions by humans, the extension of 'rights' to apes, or for that matter, any animal, is 'Purely' within the scope of secular humanism and 'socialism' in general, which also rejects an absolute system of human values.

Pure is defending what most of you advocate, albeit unknowingly; it is fully consistent with Pure's philosophy and ethical system and fully congruent with the situational ethics that most claim to practice.

Aside from 'cruelty to animals' legislation, which exists in most advanced societies, extending rights to apes is fully within the left agenda and must be.

That it is 'silly' is an oxymoron, I know, but then, so is the entire liberal agenda.

amicus...

PS...by the way...I am, 'leavin' on a jet plane' in about a week, relocating and will be offline for an unknown amount of time...regards to all...

When I first saw the title of this thread, the thought that flashed through my mind was "Well, some of the time, anyhow." When you wrote this post was not, however, one of those times.

No political party, as a group, will ever advocate extending human rights to animals, even fairly intelligent animals like apes. PETA does, but they are lunatics anyhow, as is the Spanish politician, unliss he is just pulling people's legs.

Box...I think you fail to see the irony in this. Pure, by his expressed philosophy, is bound to support such ideas. That is the 'flaw' in the ethical and moral system he and others advocate.

That is all I was pointing out. A logical progression of events. It comes as no surprise that 'Pure' was compelled to take such a stance.

Please note... the extension was 'and animals'.... i.e. We're going to give these rights to humans... "hey..let's 'extend' them to animals'.

Switzerland in 1992 also recognized by law... animals as 'beings'.

Sorry, Boxlicker... I would say that the 'will ever' is 'not even a have ever' or even 'have done it but have been unsuccessful'.

Sincerely,
ElSol

Yep

Pure, by his expressed philosophy, is bound to support such ideas.

It's a little known fact that just as Karl Marx founded the British Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in the 19th century, V. Lenin did so in Russia, as among the first items of business after the success of the Bolshevik revolution in 1918.

And it's not uncommon in socialist nations like Canada to see a portrait of Lenin on the wall in the reception room of the local humane society.

What has been done is to outlaw cruelty to animals. That is far from extending human rights to them. Animals will still be used in experiments but maybe not all experiments. Animals will still be locked up in zoos and circuses.

As I understand, in ancient Rome, a horse was a senator. This, of course, was craziness, much like PETA.

Gawd you guys are droll. it's a shits n giggles thread fercryingoutloud.

The correst dimensions for a snail is round-ish, oblong and squishy.

There. Imagine the massive layoffs in Bruselles if I was to do the directive-making. Burerocrats and spreadsheet masturbators would roanm the streets in despair.

Make a change from them roaming the streets in search of something else to issue a directive about mate.

And I note you only provided the dimensions of a Euro-snail that has been accidentally trodden on by a human male weighing around 97.3Kg using a force equal to normal walking pace... There are 27 other dimensions for the average approved Euro-snail you know.

:p :p :p :nana: :p :p :p

There will never be a European directive to protect snails.

The French would veto it.

They like eating snails.

They might produce rules for the correct dimensions of eatable snails...
