Masks

That's not the bigger point, the ability to choose is,
if you don't want to wear a mask, you don't have to take the job.

Similarly, are seatbelts even that necessary that they have to be mandated
when, in order to meet market demand and outsell their competition
manufacturers are installing enough airbags to encase you
in a marshmallow? Are not those laws "antiquated?"
Now they are just a *ahem* vehicle
for revenue generation...

How long will it take to un-mandate (and I have been making this point from day one)
masks when those vested more in unreasonable fear than freedom move from
SARS-CoV-2 to the next flu because they have moved the goalposts
far from "flattening the curve" to "saving lives?"

If it saves just one life!!!
And flu infects children!!!
DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN!

Two weeks ago, 3 million cases; two weeks later, 4 million cases.

Freedom isn’t free.

And the question never gets answered,
How much better would we be off if
we weren't playing prevent defense?

Every football fan in the world
knows the peril of his team
playing prevent from a lead...

[American Football, the other football seems to be an exercise in preventing excitement.]

It would be if, say, viruses were the size of bees, and the weave of masks was smaller than bees.

It would be more analogous is masks provided actual protection, instead of looking protective.

Far as I know, be keeping gear is 100 percent effective at stopping bees.

Most of the virus is exhaled and inhaled as a part of small droplets, NOT as "a little ball with spikes" flying about on their own. Most of these droplets containing the virus are large enough to be stopped by a simple weaved mask. Of course NOT a 100 % , but with about 60% effectivity. The rest is a simple subtraction math....

1) If you carry a viral load of 100 units and wear a simple mask.
2) Only about 40 units will make it out into the environment.
3) Out of these 40 units another half will not travel as far, so only about 20 units are able to infect somebody near you.
4) Now, if somebody near you also wears a mask, again, this mask is also "only" 50 % effective. Now the remaining 20 units floating about is cut down by another 10 units, leaving the opposite person only about 10 units or 10 % of the viral load to infect him.

Such reduced viral load is usually low enough that the persons' immune system can deal with it and the person will not become ill.

That is why masks work and the rest is just plain BS

Proof that they keep us vulnerable as a population,

because all they do is temporarily prevent transmission;

so without a cure, this becomes an imposed way of life, in short,
you have to wear a mask to keep me safe, even though I can keep me safe with a mask.

Eventually, our younger population is going to rebel against this "new" normal.
They, for the most part, feel perfectly safe...
We tell them they are.

;) ;)

I'm in favour of masks. Mostly... But part of me, a rather heartless but more practical part of me, thinks that there are too many people as it is, and a plague would probably do the planet good in the long-term. Not that corona is quite deadly enough to have a significant impact.

What we really need is a plague that slashes fertility rates without causing too much physical suffering. I wonder if any would-be Bond villains are working on that one...

As to that latter comment, I think you should look into
the effect that contraceptives in our water supply are having on us*.

I know it sounds like a wacko conspiracy theory, but there seems to be evidence...

My husband said I should have talked to the manager. I don't know if it is the way I grew up, but I hate to get anybody in trouble. I did want to get a snack for the kids across the isle from the guy but I just turned around, paid for my bread and left.

Make your own bread, you should have plenty of time with the guy doing the laundry. :)

I've seen that. Interesting stuff! Fertility rates are falling, probably for multiple reasons, and people are tender to wait longer to have fewer kids.
It's going to be a rocky road for a while, when oldies in need outnumber youngsters available to care for them. I don't envy my kids!

That's a point, but I don't think the amphibians are putting off
kids until they are in a better financial position.

:D

Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Thailand, South Korea, have all combated the virus successfully. There is not a single East Asian country in the top 20 for Covid 19 infections

In all the countries mentioned above, people wear masks as a matter of ordinary courtesy if they have any sort of sniffle. They are sufficiently adult to place their responsibilities ahead of their rights. Yet there are clowns here spouting pseudo scientific drivel who think they can tell these successful nations what to do.

Masks work.

Your hypotheticals don't prevent the spread of disease or save lives.

The USA has 4.29% of the world's population.

And 23.1% of the world's Covid deaths as of today.

Dirty people spread disease faster than clean people.

To.much time on the internet...where truth resides! It's plastics...we are awash in mirco-plastic particles...in the water supply, food chain, environment. There is evidence that it affects people and frogs fertility rates and it isn't all that conclusive because the folks who fund this sort of stuff also make the plastics. Another nice side affect(besides bent sperm) of capitalism.

No choice, mandatory masks went into effect this past the weekend. No mask: fines of $1000-$6000, arrest (it is happening), no mask/no service or entrance at stores. And yes, they have security.

This is good. People in your area are the biggest spreaders of the virus in Canada.

Quebec has seen the most COVID-19 cases and deaths than any other province, but it also plans to reopen businesses and schools faster than anywhere else.

Here in the UK, the government has said that there will be sanctions such as fines in place for not wearing a mask in stores, but judging by the words of government spokespeople and the Police, it will only happen in the most extreme cases. The police have said they don't have the resources to actively police the wearing of masks and staff in shops are not expected to get involved in potentially confrontational situations by strictly enforcing it.

How very pseudo-scientific of you.

Tell me- how many unmasked Asians are dying of Covid19 in the United States? You know, just for comparison's sake.

Post up a link of their timeline of the progress of the disease through their populations place an emphasis on the early test results back from before tests were available

You are 100% making up those numbers.

The virus is spreading within households, requires a significant exposure to an infected person, and is spread specifically by AEROSOLIZED virus. It is AIRBORNE. It is not people's spittle.

The spread between partners who sleep in the same fucking bed is only 30%.

The only thing you have right is that viral loads matter, which is why asymptomatic people who shed very few copies of the virus because their viral load is so low are not spreading this.

They put it on the shops and the business' as they can be fined as well.

The biggest sources of new infections continue to be the United States, Brazil and India; almost half of all cases worldwide came from just three countries.

Shithole countries. We should send them Soap and Masks.
