in the books she was a heartless old bitch - man-hating dominatrix story, anyone?

I was the original promoter of the idea.. on the celebs of old thread. my idea was she is the secret lover of the man of the house. but I know never to argue with chicklet. her idea would work too.

Do you mean Mary Poppins, the character, or Julie Andrews the celeb?

What about the bit where she's sliding on the banister? Or floating around the ceiling with that creepy old man? ;)

Oh -- but if it's a story based on the Disney version, it might get rejected. Doesn't say so posted anywhere (last time I checked), but I found out the hard way. Disney stuff's apparently a no-no.

disney has good lawyers and loves to use them.

Well, I found this story on the Internet on a website about urban legends:

Claim: Disney forced the removal of murals featuring their cartoon figures from the walls of three Florida day care centers.
Status: True.

Origins: When Disney discovered in 1989 that three Hallandale, Florida, day care centers had 5-foot-high likenesses of trademarked Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy painted on their walls, Disney threatened to go to court if the centers did not remove the drawings. The threat of legal action did not need to be carried out, as the centers replaced the drawings with cartoon characters belonging to Universal Studios Florida and Hanna-Barbera Productions, who volunteered the use of their character art as part of a publicity ploy.

Disney demanded that the unauthorized 5-foot-high painted figures of Disney characters on the walls of Very Important Babies Daycare, Good Godmother Daycare, and Temple Messianique (all in Hallandale, Florida) be removed for valid business reasons: infringements must be fought in order to keep trademarks intact; other Disney character licensees would have grounds to object if Disney provided inexpensive (or free) licenses to the centers (which are, after all, profit-making enterprises); and the use of Disney characters falsely suggested Disney's affiliation with the day care facilities.

Disney had also just dealt competing Universal Studios a severe blow in the theme park business by opening its Disney-MGM Studios park in Orlando, Florida, several months ahead of the completion of Universal Studios' own Orlando-based studio theme park. Universal, still smarting from the early opening of Disney's studio-themed park (Universal had been planning such a park in Orlando since 1981 but had been struggling with the financing) and claiming that some of the ideas for Disney's park had been stolen from them (Universal alleged that Michael Eisner had seen the plans for their park when he worked for Paramount), saw in the day care controversy a way to seize some publicity for themselves and give Disney a bad name in Florida as part of the bargain. Accordingly, Universal Studios Florida and Hanna-Barbera Productions offered the centers the use of characters from their own cartoons, such as Scooby-Doo, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, and Yogi Bear. Universal and Hanna-Barbera then held a special ceremony showcasing the newly-redecorated day care centers at the Temple Messanique on August 8, 1989, attended by costumed characters and executives from both organizations.

I don't know if this link is allowed on the board or not, but here it is: http://www.snopes.com/disney/wdco/daycare.htm .... there are also some other good urban legends on snopes.com ....

... trademarked Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse ...
Mickey Mouse first appeared (large black mouse, human-sized, walks erect, big round black ears, colourful human clothing) in an 18th Century fresco in an Anatolian church.

That being so, how can they trade-mark the image?

Trademarking the name I understand.

last i heard there was actually a big battle going on over who owns the rights to winnie the pooh. three different parties, including disney, the estate of the author of the original story, and some dude, are claiming exclusive rights.

winnie the pooh pulls in about $1 billion a year in videos and other merchandising for disney.

just so you know.(that was awhile go though, so who knows who owns the copyrights)

but anyway, mary poppins, dominatrix. works for me.

No. The Simpsons never had an episode of Mary Poppins as a Dominatrix.

They had an episode that was a spin off of the original Mary Poppins, though. Also, they changed her name to Sherry Boppins.

Thinking of Mary Poppins in the movie, I think her as a Dominatrix would be a wonderful story. She doesn't have to be man-hating, per se, though. But, she could be a tough, ruthless bitch...and the men love her for that! ;)

They could even be successful businessmen. Men in "high power" jobs. Men who are "in control" all day at work. And, once they're off duty they enjoy a new role. ;)

I think that the story would work, but you have to dump the magic to make it work...

Why lose the magick? I think the Disney innocence makes her as a Dominatrix more exciting!

She could be so prim and proper in public, be a nanny still, etc. And then, on her private time she turns into this ruthless bitch! Hell, maybe the father of the kids she watches comes to her for a session?! :D
