If I were going to have an affair it would be with a married man...that way we'd be in the same situation.

It's complicated. Married/same situation is preferred. You're in the same situation with the same things to lose.
However, if you fall in love, that will create other issues.
Something to be said for single partners - as they usually have a place for you to meet. As long as they're not looking for committment, that works well.

I can see advantages to both situations. On one hand, I know of a case where two married people were having an affair, her husband found out and exposed it to his wife. Now if she had been single, there would be no husband to find out! As well, the place - and time! - issue is a huge complication.

On the other hand, connecting with someone who appreciates, understands, and is sympathetic to your situation makes for a more meaningful relationship, even when it is just sexual.

While not having extensive experiences, I found being with a single woman was much easier - but she was also much younger and very open and exploratory! She also prefered it as I came without complications or games. She dated and went out with other guys, but always said she much prefered our intimate times to others as she knew where we stood, it could just be sexual, allowing her to be more comfortable and open...
