March Middleness

Always runner up, never seized the prize
often sweet sixteen, never final four
and if striving for bronze, finish fourth.
But the days are now longer than night
and despite yesterday’s snow dump
spring is here with better days to come.

Plum blossoms emerge,
flickers hammer on metal.
Time to reproduce!

grey

as February stumbles
into March
overcast,
sometime rain
sometimes snow
always a raw wind
i am consumed
by nothingness

adrift in
yet another reorg
a book arrives
i worked so hard
two years ago?
my chapter

it joins the others
on my shelf
hohum

godawful traffic
late getting home
to be met
by your smile
our three year olds’
running embrace
the dogs wet head
in my crotch
tales of
kindergarten
elementary school
and your own job trials
my frown fades
the bathroom faucet
still drips
washing a bit of grey
down the drain

my daughter, entombed
beyond the five rivers
in a place where the god penetrates her

while she sleeps
dulled in the storage locker
of the dead


alas,
the rules of Olympus

written to satisfy that rapist, Zeus,
leave me few options—

humans need grain,
so she is released,
and memory cleansed of her fate

from equinox to where life again slows
and begins again to shed
life



and so her descent to Hades seems like a walk
down a staircase indifferent
to where it will end up

Daffodils bend their heads to the driving rain never
caring for the Brown Hares 'boxing' in the lane,
nor new born lambs crying forlorn for mothers
sheltering in the lee of the farmyard wall.
We huddle warm in a morning tousled bed,
the contours of my love curved against your heart
and wait for March rainbows, the promise
of a new dawn washed by sparkling raindrops.

6) Pan's on the Loose

So WHO’s confirmed Pan’s on the
loose and were all alone on our laptops
along with Justin who’s in self isolation
and in the USA the Red/Blue divide
now includes relief against
a "foreign" virus.

The Stock Markets have tanked
and toilet paper's hard to find
though my broker tells me it's
a good time to short gold and
maybe take a flyer on Nike while
it's down as the NBA and other
sports are suspending their seasons,
whilst March Madness will be played
in empty gymnasiums but will be
broadcast live on the digital medium
of your choice.
