I'm sorry it had to be canceled, Sweet. And thank you so much for all your efforts.

English Lady said:Aye, I suppose so -though it's dry here right now.
I'm feeling really kinda sad about it right now, but with Beth of school, last weeks hospital drama and such, I guess a meet would have been a bit much this weekend.
matriarch said:I hate to say it, but looking at the weather here right now ( when I'd be thinking about driving to Manchester), and the forecast for the whole weekend, I think the decision was probably the right one. According to BBC Weather, Manchester, like just about everywhere else it's going to be showers all day today (showers? are they kidding? It's lashing against the doors and windows at the moment), heavy rain with no break, tomorrow, and heavy showers all day Sunday.
As most of our weekend was going to be spent 'out and about'....we would have been a collection of very very very wet individuals, and Sunday's walk would definitely not have been much fun. *sigh*
I'm sorry it isn't happening, very sorry, but a part of me is saying, "phew."
I had the two days booked as leave, so I'm taking them anyway.
Black Tulip said:Since you're bringing it up, I'm kind of glad too. Not about the whole thing not happening, but I was so right in backing out.
Right now, I'm recuperating from surgery. At home, but I already ripped one stitch from laughing too hard.![]()
I've been to the shops once so far, only 10 minutes away, but afterwards my head was buzzing. So walking about Manchester would not have been a good idea.![]()
Too bad there's water between us, otherwise I could have a go at organizing something in the Netherlands at a later date.
EL, you still rock for going to all the trouble.![]()
oggbashan said:I'm waiting for a phone call from my solicitors to confirm that they have the money for the sale of our old house.
The sale should have happened on Tuesday but their lawyers f**ked up and now it's today.
Until I get that phone call I couldn't have started for Manchester. I'd be chewing fingernails and working out how fast I can drive.

PS. My solicitor rang. Their lawyers' accounts department won't transmit the money until "after lunch".
PPS. Sorted out the Revenue. I to have to pay a couple of hundred pounds on Monday and then I'm in the clear. At one stage they wanted six figures!
oggbashan said:Finally handed over the keys at 4.30pm.
Their solicitors' lunch finished at 3.05 when the funds were transferred. They had been holding the buyer's money for 15 days because THEY (the buyer's solicitors) hadn't sent a simple form (which they got wrong when they did send it!!!). The buyer and I could have sorted the form out over a pint of beer. I wonder who gets the interest on a substantial fraction of a million pounds for 15 days? I don't.
I'll celebrate with a beer tonight. For the first night in several years I won't have to drive to another house after the evening meal.

English Lady said:Oooh, I've never been to Ireland! Nice choice, vana!
I was wondering on't bus t'other day if we could maybe arrange something to coincide with the big manchester Pride festival -I don't think we could do it for this year, but next maybe? It's an idea anyway.
matriarch said:Now there's an idea........we should arrange a whole raft of meet ups, and follow the pride festivals all over the UK.
It's the London one today, and Min and I were going to go...but the weather forecast for today truly sucks (raining as I speak), and I can't imagine anything more depressing than standing in the rain in Trafalgar Square waiting to watch a very bedgraggeld procession come round the corner and down Whitehall (do you think Gordon will come out to the gates in 10 Downing Street to watch them go past?)
Manchester Pride
Brighton Pride
Bournemouth Pride
Quite a few have already happened, the season started back in May Bank Holiday for Birmingham.
Dublin has had their's, and it goes over two whole weeks. Sounds like a perfect combination - Pride and Dublin (and if you've never been, you have no idea what you're missing. It's a fantastic city, and so compact that you don't need a car, or taxis, you can walk just about anywhere in the centre.)
