MAMDANI WINS! ESTABLISHMENT DEMS, SEXUAL PREDATORS LOVING MAGA TAKE A HIT

The NYC mayor's race is not much more than a beauty pageant. NYC has fundamental problems and predicaments that can't be solved with what mayors are allowed to do. The best they can do is model the boots they use to kick the can down the road.

Regarding NYC GDP, most of that is financial market based and money is fungible, no infrastructure overhead. You'd think that some self-billed, hi-tech, guru would have figured that out all on its own.

Wall Street is obviously a big part of it but it’s also tech companies. The most profitable publicly traded company headquartered in Manhattan is a telecom company. Much like everyone else who posts in this thread who only read a wiki blurb knows little of all the major manufacturers in the outer boroughs that employ the majority of folks living here. I’m sorry you can’t get this info from a wiki page but there is more to NYC than just Manhattan and Wall Street.

I know what is today and you missed my point. They have no physical plant that needs to be moved and relocating their headquarters is just a matter of filing the proper paperwork.

So you’re suggesting that the NYSE, an institution that has existed in its present location since 1903, can just up and leave to anywhere else by just filing some paperwork?

Money is fungible, yes. You assume the people that comprise the staff that work at the NYSE daily can just be replaced with some random Joes from Oklahoma?

I mean.. really?

I've heard people say you're a New Yorker when you've lived here for 10 years. I think you're a New Yorker when you stop caring about the misconceptions people have about the city.

"If you know, you know" would be our city motto if it weren't already "Baconeggandcheese, saltpepperketchup."

Fair point well taken. I was born here and have some strong opinions obviously.

Like you said though.. for all the crap people like to talk about our lovely boroughs.. we should just fuhgeddaboudit and move on..

You are quoting the racist poster formerly known as Ishmael before he got banhammered.

The reality-based world is not a strong part of his octogenerarian brain's fantasyland.

Yes, I mean really. When the costs exceed the benefits then location is disposable.

I will further point out that it is not the NYSE as an entity that is paying all those taxes, it is the various investment houses located in NYC that are footing the bill.

Right. I can’t take this seriously. The tech infrastructure alone.. but again, having worked on the floor I might be biased and you clearly have no idea how trading works and what’s required. You can dream your little dream here but the cost to move the tech infrastructure alone.. not to mention all those investment houses that are all connected.. It’s just baffling how you fail to see anything else other than a building with some people working in it like they are nothing.

It took months after 9/11 to route all the circuits we lost under the trade center.. this is not a move that would ever happen.

Want to see what I think of authoritarianism? Here ya go:

https://www.literotica.com/s/taking-a-walk-2

Ok. Against my instincts, I went ahead and read your story and I have 2 separate critiques - one for the writing side of Lit and one concerning the PB.

You kept the story short and the pacing tight which serves your reveal well. There’s a bit of repetition of dialogue in the backstory, but it’s not anything that’s really bad. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, could use an editor and that’s the case in this story as well, but on the whole, the errors never intrude on the reading. Great premise on the fly/walk. There’s no sex so I think it should go in the Non-Erotic category, but that’s just me - I get why you decided on placing in Celebrity. It is an overall good read. My one complaint is that you never really gave a valid (any) reasoning for the instigation of the incident that propelled the story forward.

Ok, for the PB: I doubted that a person who is maga (you are) could reveal to me insight on authoritarianism through fictional writing that they had not shown in their postings here. And to that end, I believe my instincts were proven correct.
You don’t appear to know a thing about authoritarians.

I am willing to let authors take well known characters into different places. Abraham Lincoln as a vampire slayer? I’m in! You appear to want to stay true to the fundamentals of this particular character so it is kind of confusing that you acknowledge he is born in Kansas, but you decide on taking him on a trek to reacquaint himself to small town values. Again, it’s not a dealbreaker as far as reading, but I think it would’ve helped had you shown some sort of interaction with the character with rural living. You didn’t do that. You went straight to a violent interaction. I think you misinterpret the true benevolent nature of the character you’re writing about. This may be a stretch on my part, but I think you, and a broad brush of maga, constantly try to assign to trump qualities that do not fit his character as well - confusing authoritarianism. He has never been a selfless everyday man fighting for the common worker. He is, what maga professes to despise, a conniving New York elitist.

It’s my opinion that you actually made the lead character into a soulless authoritarian not to be rooted for. There is no one in the world who is a threat to this character, save maybe one, so to have him deal out violence that is excessive you come too close to having the reader feel sympathy for the antagonists. And, as you have displayed in many of your previous postings, you also relish in the fact that trump is using the office of the presidency to skirt the laws to punish those vulnerable and unable to fight back. Both trump and your character use the powers given to them recklessly and irresponsibly. No, sir! You have failed to show that you understand what authoritarianism is. And finally, to conclude this story time hour, I’m going to repeat to you a conservative mantra that would serve your lead character well…

None of this would’ve had to have happened had he only followed the instructions of the police.

They can't argue against his politics, which are popular with most people, so they go for the low-hanging fruit, something he can't help. Typical of MAGAt turds. That's all they've got. Meanwhile, they're being played like fools by billionaires. They're so stupid, then wonder why society treats them like lepers.

His policies appealed to the people of NYC so magats living in Idaho and Montana are up in arms. What is the fear? Could it be that the ideas of Bernie/AOC may, god forbid, spread to their neck of the woods?

I’m rooting for Mamdani. I want to see how this all plays out over the next few years. Municipal grocery stores, exit taxes, rent caps, and tax the rich. What could go wrong? It’s going to be exciting!! Go Mamdani!!!!

And you wonder why folks like me have the smell of shit in our noses every time you post.

What state do you live in?

“Who did you vote for?”…”what state do you live in?”

Are you part of the German SS? Are you going to track down all non believers?

You sound creepy

The only people I know who are offended by any questions on their privilege are white male magats. Guess what no one here needs for you to tell them about yourself.

I love that…”privilege”. That always sounds funny to me when I hear that.

What I’m really looking forward to is the future video footage of these municipal grocery stores. I’m picturing a DMV type scenario. A banana costs $0.25 less but you have to wait two hours to check out. I think it’s going to work 🍌

Try and keep up. We’ve already been over how New Yorkers are going to struggle securing food. I think we all concluded it will be either like Mad Max or the Hunger Games. 🙄💩

If you’re depending on a municipal grocery store run by the government for food….yes, you’re definitely going to struggle to eat. It’s a great weight loss plan though

Your concerns are noted. New Yorkers thank you for your attention to this matter. 💩👍

Everything is free…vote for me!! He’s going to win in a land slide!! I’m dead serious!! There’s not a chance in hell he loses this.

I honest to God would vote for this guy if I could, because I’m dying to see how this turns out. It’s going to be epic

Careful what you wish for.
I'm reminded of health care reform, where the crux of the dispute isn't that right-wingers are afraid it won't work, it's that they're afraid it will work.
For better or worse, we do have a real problem with far too many Americans being unable to afford nutritious food while there is plenty of it out there and no real reason why it has to be priced out of their reach. That's what he's trying to address here. If you don't think it'll work, what do you think should be done?
