What books have you read that became really good or better movies?

I've read books I thought would be good movies and they were. I've seen movies, then read the books. Most books were better than the movies. In most cases where I liked the books better, I liked the movies almost as much, despite the subtle differences. The big thrill for me is seeing the characters come to life on the big screen.

Right now what comes to mind is a tv series. True Blood was far better than the books. I haven't read the comic books for Walking Dead, but the series is excellent.

Ahhh...

...is Johnny feeling stalked, now?

Notta. I'm just curious as to who Johnny Bob is and why you think I am him. The only time I would worry is if you show up at my doorstep and even then, I am not the one I'd be worried about.

That's a rarity. Hollywood can usually be counted on to screw things up royally.

It's hard to think of possibilities, perhaps The Sixth Sense or The Excorcist or Forrest Gump.

I don't think "The Sixth Sense" was based on a book.

The Piano

Great movie. First time I'd ever seen a penis in mainstream cinema. (woot, woot!)

Gods and Generals?

While I and many others applauded the attempt, it failed (and very miserably). Watching, first, Martin Sheen (in Gettysburg), then, Robert Duvall, attempting to do R. E. Lee was an experience akin to fingernails screeching across a chalk blackboard.

If you haven't read the book that spawned it all, Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels, do yourself a favor and read it before you die.

i gota think

I believe that is the most intelligent statement you have ever said.

Jurassic Park.

As good as the book is it got really bogged down with lots of crap that didn't matter like the precise amount of cameras, the voltage in the fences and even the cutely named channels and meals. I wish the movie had nailed the T-Rex swimming scene that was forced into the third movie but other than that no complaints.

I would like to Steve Berry's Cotton Malone series or the Amber Room go to the big screen.

I thought Lord of the Rings did a fairly good job

I don't think movies should be made from books. When I read, I already have a movie playing that no one will be able to match.

Which is why I don't like Stephen King's movies. I'm dreading them putting The Dark Tower on film, cause I already know how Roland sounds and looks like.
