washed by early sunset hues
taste all of autumn

Perhaps this has been discussed before, but actually, most experts agree that given the difference between Japanese and English word construction writing haiku in English is not bound by the same 5-7-5 structure. There are different acceptable forms of writing haiku in English, generally it should not EXCEED 17 syllables, but is usually less - as English syllables convey more meaning than Japanese "on".
