Most voters believe President Joe Biden has divided the country despite promising to unite it, a survey from Convention of States Action/Trafalgar Group found.

The survey, obtained first by Breitbart News, found 58.7 percent of voters express the belief that Biden has, indeed, divided the country during his time in office. Just one in five say he has unified the country, and another one in five remain unsure.

The survey follows Biden’s angry and divisive anti-MAGA speech, in which he openly demonized millions of Americans, deeming them a threat to the country itself.

According to Biden, former President Donald Trump and his supporters — “MAGA Republicans” — apparently represent “an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.”

That rant-it wasn't a speech-didn't hurt that take

But I would still put it way more on the media, the 'news media' as well as social media, and even entertainment is now rife with divisive political messaging, preferring to piss people off and get them arguing rather than creating decent content.

Not a fan of Biden's, but its a bit of an unfair take.

WTF does "unite the country" even mean? Another vague, nebulous phrase that could mean anything to anybody in which responses can be interpreted and spun to bolster or squash any point of view. Corporate news loves this shit because it's absolutely meaningless. Unity is a value neutral idea. Boston was united in witch burning. That doesn't mean witch burning was a good idea. The nation was divided on slavery, That doesn't mean being anti-slavery is a bad thing.

The "unite the country" question by it's very nature is idiotic and reveals nothing about what voters think or want. It just gives hack commentators ammunition to criticize politicians for mystery policies and positions they may or may not have taken and hold them accountable for things no one could ever accomplish.

Sadly, this is typical of the type of "News" articles that the various Rightguide screen names post on here; devoid of actual news or substance, and often containing undisguised propaganda and worse, blatant (and already debunked) falsehoods.

But you do have a good point that the modern news media seems to thrive on stirring up emotions- fear and anger- rather than simply reporting the news. (Case in point, pretty much anything Rightguide/SugerCounselor/etc. posts.) This certainly doesn't help the situation. Again, while like you I'm not a fan of Biden, I would agree that the country is really divided right now. I don't, however, see anything that Biden says or does that is deliberately making things worse in that regard. The previous president, on the other hand, was a master of inflammatory social media posts and controversial policies, (his anti-environmental stances, for instance) and I see plenty of others- the Marjorie Tylor Broeberts of this world- who seem to be more about "owning the libs" versus actually trying to govern rationally and fairly. This, too, is counter-productive, and part of why I am just as fed up with the dominant far-right rhetoric as I am with the far left ultra-extreme-woke Antifasocialists.
