KISSS Neffie...good to see you!!
Ladybird sent me some vegemite and I do have to admit it is an acquired taste! She also sent some candy for the kidlet and a keychain for me...my eventual goal is to get a keychain from every state and every country!

The thread may live on!?!? Greetings from the coast.

It hasn't been that many days since someone posted.

I was glad to find a thread from Maine. What part of Maine are you from. I'm just down the road apiece from Auguster.

Pull up a seat!

Hi midwest. I 'magine everyone's welcum! Transplants and misplants included.

Priapus, I'm on the coast near Machias...Not in the middle of nowhere, teetering on the edge. Hope to "see" y'all around!!

Mawnin' there momur,

Since I'm from away, only been in Maine a relatively short while, had to find a map to see where Machias is. You sure are teetering on the edge of this fine country of ours.

Mawnin' Priapus and everyone else here.

Grew up in Augusta but left a long, long time ago to seek my fortune out on the frontier. But the best part of the year is always when I bring the family back home for a vacation.

Hope you all have a great day.

Hey there midwest

Grew up a "Connecticut Yankee", became a "Masshole" for a while, then was a "Flatlander" in NH, now ive turned into a "Mainiac".

You've made the tour of New England, haven't you?

I went from Maine to Buffalo for a year, and then to Chicago. Been in the Chicago area now since late 1974 so I've actually lived out here longer than in Maine.

But I'll tell you that when we drive back to Maine I always insist on stopping at the first rest stop north of Kittery to breathe in the pine air. And my wife swears that my downeast accent returns in full force within five minutes of putting our bags down at the folks' place in Manchester.

Only two more states to hit!!

Actually came to Maine for a new job. Unfortunately became the victim of a corporate management shake-up after 13 months.
Now as one of the many unemployed Americans, am searching for an opportunity.

That's a tough situation, and of course you're hardly alone. Good luck with your search.

Thanks. Unfortunately, Maine is not a great place to find much. I may possibly again be able to get to live in another of the New England states.

I know exactly what you mean. My brother lost his job there last summer and it took him quite a few months to find another. It's such a shame that a beautiful place like Maine, where most people have a fantastic work ethic, can't attract more businesses.

I think a lot of that has to do with our government, both federal and state. Environmental issues and the like. It's extremely expensive, from an environmental control standpoint, for a manufacturing business to set up in Maine. Don't read me wrong. I am not an advocate of doing anything to Maine's environment: just sating a point. Also from what I have seen, the employers here do not want to pay good people what they can get in other places. As you said the work ethic of most people is fantastic. Fortunately for many of the businesses which are here in Maine the people working here love to live in this state.
