I'll be heading to Madison, Wisconsin with my partner in late May for a convention.

My partner will be uber-geeking and likely not be interested in playing tourist, but I am pretty certain that I will need to get out of there and do a bit of wandering.

I was hoping anyone that is familiar with the city would be able to suggest things to do, see, attractions, walking routes, shops, restaurants etc while we are there. Heck, advice on a nice park that I can sit and read in would be appreciated.

We'll be staying downtown and won't have a car ... so anything that is downtown or easily accessed from downtown would work.

I've only been to Racine... once... it was nice, but didn't go very far, it was for a workshop. Hope you have great weather... May can be iffy... But if you're going to pass through or near Milwaukee... don't forget to hit the Cheesecake Factory!

Ice fishing comes to mind. Unfortunately, it's been a mild winter, so that would probably be a bit dangerous. I agree with SK, they have lots of cheese. :D

Thanks Selena and S-Des.

We're flying directly into the airport there so the only place we'll be passing through is the airport where we make our connections.

Since its going to be May ... I suspect ice fishing is out. Since its going to be me ... I know that ice fishing will definitely be out. Winter should be spent in front of a fireplace, drinking hot chocolate and reading books - not sitting on a block of ice waiting for a fish to be silly enough to fall for the old baited hook trick. :D

And ... I have a confession to make. I'm not a big cheese fan. This might get me in trouble if I admit that while there.

Just make sure you punctuate every sentence with, "Ya hey". You'll be fine.

Oh dear god, please don't judge Wisconsin by Racine. ;)

I've not been to Madison, but I'm sure you can find some kind of website with suggestions. If it's anything like Milwaukee, they'll be plenty to do. If nothing else, you'll find a good bar, I'm sure. :)

Every sip of alcohol lowers her IQ by 2 points ;)

~~ RL, i did mention that you may have promised to go with your partner, but you didnt promise to stay awake whilst your partner gets geeky ;) in other words...perfect nap time ;)

I've not been to Madison, but a friend wanted to go there, so I researched it. She wanted to see a show at a gallery. Turns out because if the University, there are lots of galleries etc. Tons of information online.

Now I'm jealous and blue again....

Madison Wisc. is set between the beautiful lakes of Mendota and Monona which shores are abundant with parks and recreation areas. Downtown Madison is built on the strip of land between the two lakes.

Have fun...I have never been there but I know several people from there. They now live in Atlanta, so that might tell you something.

What about the bridges. Or am I just being stupid thinking that Madison is in Madison County?

Let me clarify ... cheese cooked into/onto something is good. Cheese for the sake of cheese? Like a cheese platter or a selection of stinky cheeses? Not so good.

Poutine remains ... food of the gods. :D
