So I'm finally updating my 2009 Macbook from OS 10.5 (Duck Billed Playtpus?) and I was wondering if anyone had thought on the different versions since. I have to get up to at least 10.7 to hopefully use Chrome browser and Chromecast to stream live poker from the World Series of Poker. I'm not sure if I want to go further, or if staying at 10.7 would be the ticket.

I received the 10.6.3 disk in the mail from the Apple Overlords, so that part is covered.

Thanks tech gurus (LTR?)

I am running Yosemite 10.10.3 off a separate hard drive and it works fairly well. I don't use it for everything because I have old software that I continue to use on 10.6.8.
I tried Maverick and it was evil.
I am running an early 2009 macmini.

I would not go past mavericks for that model.

The newer OS's will run, but it will make the machine much slower.

If you do put on the Yosemite, than it will change a couple of apps, but it will run.

The only thing is there are quite a few apps that will not run on Yosemite. Apple does not advertise that part, I learn of it only after a user does that "free to anyone" upgrade.

Let me add that you really do need to get out of the cat series of OS

You are on leopard 10.5, 10.7 is Lion, 10.8 is Mt Lion, 10.9 is Mavericks, 10.10 is Yosemite.

That is why I switch back and forth! I also upgraded the memory in my mac mini to the max, from 2 G to 8G.

Snow leopard 10.6.8 ?

Why do you say to get out of the cats?

All of the older cat-based nomenclature iOS' are out-of-date. I remember going to the Apple Store to buy Snow Lep back when because that was the only way to get it. Now it's all done over the cloud through updater notifications.

You can still use them, but at this point, when the next iOS comes out after summer ends, the differences between the last cat and the newest will be starker than Stark Industries. ;)

This is a laptop, and I don't have an iPhone.

I'd really like to just get to 10.7, but it seems it GONE from the app store.

I already paid $20 of OS 10.6. Just now they wanted $29 for an online chat. Greedy fuckers.

GO with Mountain Lion. If you have an early to mid 2009 Mackbook Pro, I won't handle Maverick or Yosemite without burning up. I've cooked 2 Logic boards learning this. Any later version of the Macbook should be able to handle any upgrade.

Snow leopard 10.6.8 ?

Yea that was a lousy update. Twas not my fav.

Yea cause it would be way out of date. I have disks for panther up, let me know if you need the Mt Lion or Lion disks.

Thanks for that. I'm going to see how Yosemite treats me, because that was the only download on Appleville...

If it seem shitty, I'll hit you up.
