Who still has some?

Coming of age in the late 70s with a big brother, KMET, KLOS and a boyfriend in a band, I was influenced greatly by the music of the era.

I'm sure I'm forgetting many, but these were some of my favorites:

Led Zepplin
Black Sabbath
Jethro Tull
Fog Hat (Not that great, I know, but they still bring back good memories)
Styx
E.L.O
Genesis
Rush
Springsteen
Peter Gabriel
ZZ Top

I know I'm forgetting so many. Help me out here guys!

Does anybody still have your old LPs?

Sadly, I don't. I got rid of my collection pretty early on. I think I got rid of some each time I moved as a young adult (which was plenty).

For a long time I held onto a few that were from my mom's collection. The Beatles, The Fifth Dimention, Neil Diamond and Tom Jones (lol). There were other's I've since forgotten. Maybe 20 in all from my mom.

I got rid of those before our move to Ct in 2000. When you're moving a family of 5 and two dogs across country, you tend to get practical. Now, I'm sorry I did.

Yup, I have 3 milk crates full of LPs down on the shelves in my basement. They haven't been moved in almost 15 years.

Another flashback Ruby! I will have to think back to old LP's as I don't have any of them anymore.
But I remember KMET & KLOS Radio stations growing up in So Cal.
I remember having a famous KLOS bumper sticker on my first car!

Whoo hoo. I still have some. About 2 dozen LP, and about 75 45's. Still have a player that works too! :)

Yes, sigh do! I want to know what's there. :) Do you have a turn table?

That's another thing I wish I didn't get rid of. My brother bought me a good one right when cd's were new. Damn!

I got rid of most of mine, just kept the good ones...Queen, Elton John, a few others I can't remember. Still have a lot of my 45's too.

Have maybe 100 LP's still, don't ever play them but I've still got a "record player" just in case I get a bug up my azz.

Have many 45's too.

My priceiest one is an import of a Japanese version of Sgt. Peppers by the Beatles.

Remember album art?

Remember the special edition LP's with beautiful art on them?

Remember going to the smoking section in front of the school?

Remember getting high before chem?

Remember skipping out after lunch to go to the beach?

Oh, I digress. :)

OMG... this is totally not what you were asking for. But i have to tell this story.

About 9 or so years ago I had taken my kids to a second hand store (Value Village). I was looking for something that I couldn't get anymore from a "regular" store. I think I was looking for a replacement lid for my grandmothers old coffee pot. anyway, my oldest son picked up an LP.. held it up (he was probably 6 or so) and asked "Mom is this some sort of frisbee or something?" I busted up laughing.

I felt super old then...

Anyway, I never had the 33's.. I only had the 45's.. then I "grew" up and moved onto cassettes.. ;)

My brother who is 4 years older than me still has alot of his old LP's.. I'll have to see what ones he has.

Thanks for the memories Ruby!

some of the album art was great!

In art classes one of our projects, was to design an album cover. LONG before CD's came out!
:p

I have several Picture LP's too.

When I got to college, I met the bass player Karl for the band "The Urge", we became good freinds, his dad and my mom worked together, and so I got a chance to design their first CD cover, didn't get picked, but had fun doing it anyway. They did use "my logo" for local band apperances though, so that was cool.

BTW, never had chem class, but I did get high even though I was a soccer player, during lunch time. I probably kept Hostess in business back then. :D

my mom gets all the credit, not me...she gave me their albums after dad died and they sat without being played for years until i found the new stylus

so....what to play? what to play? hmmmmm

i've seen a number of those bands live, by the way, many when i was just a kid...i saw yes when i was maybe 10 or thereabouts (maybe younger...hell, i can't remember) and the one thing i remember thinking was that they could fit more musical notes into the shortest time than any band i'd ever heard

the moody blues were awesome live

the dead were...um...usually really stoned...and weird...but their concerts were lots of fun

soooo...what to play? what to play? hmmmmm

Mine all got lost or ruined.

I even had a Shel Silverstien record that had the most sexual and drug related music I've heard to date, and I am a fucking tree hugger for crying out loud. It was called "Freakin at the Freakers Ball." It was amazing. I would pay a lot of money to have another copy of that.

Sigh.....

Quite a while ago, certain cats used it and Easy Rider as scratch pads.

sigh, do you have A Trick of the Tail, Genesis?

I haven't heard that in ages. I remember memorizing the words to the album in my head while I was on watch on my dad's fishing boat in the middle of the night. (I had to do something to stay awake.)

When I updated my sterio system a couple of years ago, I made sure it had a turnstyle so I could still listen to my albums. I could not do without a Kris Kristofferson album that I have from the early 70's, I have other CDs of his, but his album is a great mix....

Hey, I have my Dads 78's...... find something to play them on these days
