So I'm largely naive on this whole topic here...

Can anyone recommend for me stories on this site that either highlight or at least include a genuinely loving, romantic relationship with a D/s angle? I'm not well-educated on the lifestyle myself. I can totally get where power exchange can be a real turn-on and an avenue of intimacy (which is where I would think the turn-on would be), but it's not something I've been through nor have I really read up on it.

The story I've been doing over in the sci-fi/fantasy category (Angels, Demons and Alex) has a D/s angle to it. That is in part largely because it was a good way to put together characters that would not otherwise have given one another a chance, but the relationship quickly becomes very loving & caring in very short order while the "D" character is still wrestling with guilt and trepidation over his position of power.

I'm kind of looking for both inspiration and examples, because I really don't want to short-change this angle of my own story or do something that would insult/belittle readers who genuinely are into that sort of thing.

Sounds like you jumped on a bandwagon... I just spent two years dealing with a cowriter who didn't understand D/s dynamics. It bogged the work down something fierce, and I constantly had to correct her misapprehensions and bad dynamics.

maybe... rewrite that beginning?

I can recommend some excellent writers -- with the caveat that what's online is primarily M/M fanfiction.
litgal is really seriously knowledgeable. Check out her Sentinel and her Buffy fanfic.

Not trying to blow my own trumpet here, but this is something I'm increasingly doing in my writing. However, most of my new good stuff is not here, because I think it's good enough to publish; but it also isn't published because I haven't got my act together on that.

Catriona sort of counts. It is unashamedly a romance. Whether you consider the relationship 'healthy' is up to you; I think it is healthy for Catriona, but she is a person with issues. IOU also sort of counts. Again, you can reasonably ask questions about how healthy the relationship actually is (the backstory - which doesn't appear in the story at all but was clearly in my mind as I wrote it - was that the male protagonist was, in his youth, very much in love with the female protagonist's mother). But what I hope I'm showing with these two stories (and others which are not here) is that relationships with some element of dominance and violence can also be life-affirming and loving.

Again in fanfic mode, I have just read-- nay, gobbled-- the writing of Barb C.

The fandom is Buffy, the focus is hetero-- Spike* and Buffy-- and it is one of the best, hottest, most loving, D/s dynamics I've ever read.

*Spike the punk vampire is what you would call a "Little Black Dress." You can pair him with anybody at all and make it work.
