I suppose inability to write erotica in English is a common ailment for most Indian writers. I have posted 60+ stories in Literotica, mostly in my language and have read a few great stories written by my countrymen here. But when it comes to writing in English, I feel like a baby lost in some carnival. I remember to have written voluminous essays in English during my college days but erotica is a different ball game.

So, I think making love to a woman in real is a lot easier than describing it in English. Whenever I attempt to write a story in English, I end up falling like a spent man after a long masturbation session. There have been instances where, I began a couple of stories in English and reverted to my language after realising that it is not easy for me.

Why I am posting this thread?

Well, just wanted to see if my English, which people say has improved, is good enough to evoke some response, some advice or at least some chiding. I am looking forward to know if I have something to begin with. cheers!

Your English is better than that of most native speakers.

Contemplate these facts: The 50 most common English words are used for half of all speech and writing. A 3000 word vocabulary takes care of 98% of all english speech and writing. Erotica isn't scholastic.

Yes, your English (to a Westerner--I realize that Indians have as much right to say they are speaking and writing English as anyone else is that has it as a first or second language) is quite good. The issue most likely is in your phrasing and what you find erotic and worthy of emphasis. For several months, I've looked here and there at Indian writers of erotica and have yet to be satisfied with one--from my Western perspective. I have expected to find stories that I find are sensual and use an arousing custom-based approach that would be new to me. What I've found has been rushed and shallow--and unexpectedly crude--though, not giving me any sense of the erotic that I see in Kamasutra art, for instance. I'll have to take a look at yours--because you use language very well in a Western sense.

Your English is fine, but it is clearly Indian English - a bit more formal and florid at times than SAE. You do construct compound and complex sentences very well, and far better than many of my native-English speaking students.

As others have said, keep on writing; you can only get better.

Thanks first of all. Your observation with regard to finding what is erotic is noteworthy. I remember a friend from UK asking me about the Indian writer's fascination, if not obsession with breasts. It was a pretty justifiable question as many english erotic stories describe at length about how breasts are played with. This might sound simple or even silly but the fact of the matter is that, we love to watch breasts. In most parts of India, women are fully covered and rarely can one see someone revealing her cleavage or flesh portions. Even the film censors have been quite strict in terms of nudity and hence there are people who believe that mere touching of a breast is a sexual achievement. Sometimes, watching a cleavage can be more stimulating to people than seeing her nude. This is one of the many shortcomings that comes into play when people like me attempt to write a story in English. More often than not, every story ends up with an overwhelming dosage of breast fetish. While this can arouse Indian readers, the same can't said about those from the rest of the world.

Well, Kamasutra is something which Indians must be proud of. But, Kamasutra essentially describes about methodical love making in the normal sense. However, I personally believe that, erotica is often mistaken for pornography, especially by most indian writers who end up writing stories that are crude and more often than not, very very predictable.

I have written only in my native language (Tamil). I am sure with a little bit of help from friends, I may gather the courage to post one in English very soon. I will, surely give the link. You are spot on. I have a very humble educational background. I attended a short term course after my first job as English was inevitable at work. I plead ignorance, but I could not make out what exactly is SAE.
